The Outer Worlds 2

10.9 GB 'hotfix' patch is out today on the Gamepass version.

Critical Fixes:

  • Premium Edition owners on the PlayStation 5 are correctly granted the Corporate Appreciation Prize Pack & (if you own a pre-order version of the game) the Commander Zane’s Battle Pack.
    • Note: Unfortunately, the Consumerism Flaw being rewarded is not fixed in this patch and will be addressed in a future hotfix.
  • Permanent fade to black when returning to the Praetor landing pad no longer occurs.
  • Saving and Loading while using the dematerializer will no longer prevent the player from equipping weapons.
  • Inez is no longer absent sometimes from Fairfield after she returns there from the Ministry of Accuracy.
    • Note: This fix only applies to new saves. We sincerely apologize for those still experiencing this bug. We're currently investigating solutions for a retroactive fix for save files being affected.
  • Improved the accuracy of information displayed during the end-of-game slides.

Quest/Story:

  • Players can now properly progress the quest "Forbidden Secrets of the Undisputed Claim" if they had chosen the player response "I'll think about it."
  • Beacons have been added to the optional objective for the quest "Crash Course in Telemetry" to assist players with progression.
  • Improved player guidance for progressing in the Monastery in Golden Ridge.
  • There is now more guidance on how to recruit Inez if the player previously missed her.
  • (SPOILER) Inez's fate will now be clearer after abandoning her on Paradise Island.

UI/UX:

  • Motion Blur settings are now saved correctly.
  • Interact prompts more clearly indicate when a holding an input is necessary and accurately displays progress.
  • Subtitle Font settings are now correctly applied.
  • Placeholder text will no longer appear when talking to Hierarch Wolcott.
  • If "Player Status Bars" is set to Always Off, the health bar will no longer appear after saving and loading.
  • Aza 'wants to talk' icon will no longer reactivate improperly on the player ship.
  • After a conversation with a vendor, the player will now remain in the same location where the conversation was started.

Audio:

  • Video message from Trooper Ortiz now plays VO.
  • The volume of the voiceover of the Corporate Hireling in Paradise Island is now scaled to how far away the player is.
  • Reduced likelihood of radio content repeating too frequently.
  • Removed a radio emitter that was misplaced under the ground in Paradise Island.

Additional Bug Fixes:

Crashes and Critical Issues:

  • The game will no longer crash when interrupting certain NPC bark dialogue lines by interacting with or killing one of the participating speakers.
  • Removed the potential for picking up specific grenades to trigger a crash.
  • The player will no longer fall through the world when loading a save that was made inside certain tunnel/vent areas while crouching.
  • The player will no longer fall through the world after exiting computer terminals in third-person mode.
  • Using the kill switch in the Auntie’s Choice Headquarters no longer gets the player camera stuck.
  • Resolved unique edge case that prevented player from using the console on the Sovereign’s Ship.
  • Removed collision that blocked player access to crouch tunnel.
  • NPCs in the Auntie’s Choice Headquarters spawn in this hostile state more consistently for players that triggered that outcome.
  • VIP lift at Rift Labs should now properly unlock accessible floors, preventing player from becoming stuck.
  • Addressed issue where an enemy was locked in a closet, preventing combat completion.

I've played it for 30 hours or so, taking my time to do every obvious quest and hoovering up loot (which does become a bit pointless after a certain point)

The main thing I would say is that after the prologue, and on the first part of the game you land outside a town called 'Fairfield'. Track down an NPC called Huell Chaudry and do his quest almost immediately, it'll give you a very useful double jump skill which is pretty handy for exploring/climbing. It's not far from the settlement anyway.

As for my previous stealth issue - as far as I could tell you can't get a Sniper rifle until you complete the first 'World' and there's a companion who buffs stealth that you can't get until the second World unlocks either, this, along with investing lots in sneak has made my stealth person pretty good now at taking out enemies from a distance in one shot, but it took a while to get there.

I just happened to follow that quest straight away, very handy and required for a few shortcuts later on.

Found my way to an electricity station, hilariously there are about 5 or so different skill check options and I have none of the abilities :p

Really enjoying it though.

Can’t decide whether I like the hdr implementation. It seems washed out a lot of the time! Maybe I’ll try RTX HDR.

It took me a few hours to realise there are radio stations. They’re great too.

Liking the varying ways side quests appear.

Trying not to rush this too much, but the hours are disappeared! Fewer games do that to me these days.

which version of Outer Worlds 1 would you go with - the original or spacers choice? I read spacers choice had real performance issues, or did they get ironed out in the end?

I played Spacer's Choice after the patching cycle and it was fine (RX 6800 at 4K).

However, I'd probably pick whatever's cheapest because I don't think it added enough to spend more.

The Spacers Choice contains both the DLC's as well. Greenmangamming has it for €12, or €6, if you just buy the main game. Which is cheaper then CDKeys, or Loaded as they are called nowdays.

Was just trying to install this so it's ready for after work, but it looks like Xbox/Game Pass is having some technical issues. Or at least I am having trouble with it. Anyone else?

Same here - I preloaded it and installed the update during the day. Now the game when launched goes back to trying to install itself and has dissapeared off the store.

I tried the first game but gave up sharply as it felt too similar to fallout, which is disliked.

I hear this game is supposed to be better. Unsure if I shohld give it a go.
Its still very fallout-y vibe to it. I'll go out on a limb and say that ,due to it still being very similar to the first game , if you didnt like the first one you'll most likely not like the 2nd either.

i only played about 2 hours of the first, but the setting i found dull. it's also an issue i find with new games, in new worlds i don't know. the game could be set in middle earth and be exactly the same in every other way, and i'd play the game to death with a hard on the entire time.

Thought I would give this a try on Gamepass, didn't really like the first as found it all a bit dull and never really got gripped with the story\atmosphere etc. This seems the same and not for me, as above seems a little dull not even a semi :D

It's actually under £12 on loaded, though there's 2 editions so it's not clear at all, i've also seen there is a DLSS mod which allays my fears about the bad performance a bit. Ive heard the 1st one is actually not that long which suits me quite well. Kids and all

Started playing this once the GP servers came back online last night. Put in a couple of hours and I've got a good feeling about this game so far.

Quite like that it seems quite limited in terms of what abilities and traits you can give your character, so it feels like it invites leaning into role-playing a specific type.

I went for a kind of male version of Kaylee from Firefly, focusing on engineering mainly and then explosives. Brilliiant (at engineering, in a kind of intuitive way) but also "dumb" (as in not really knowing much about anything else). I'm having to live with the limitations of not being able to talk my way into or out of things, pick locks or hack anything, but I've also been able to use the abilities I do have to achieve some goals, which felt quite cool. Also "lucked" into one positive outcome I wasn't expecting.

Playing on hard, though, and noticing it is actually pretty hard! I really don't last long at all in a firefight, so I'm going to need to strategise around that once I need to do more fighting. Hoping chucking explosive around will cut it.

Anyone running any fun builds on this so far?

Glad I levelled up as much as possible before more or less finishing the first area. It would have been a tough fight otherwise. There are just so many paths and options one can take, it’s very impressive.

Glad I took lockpicking, there are so many locked doors. Engineering is now proving useful too.

The graphics looks awful for the performance hit.

Yes and no. Some of the areas, the detail and scale is impressive and I’m guessing there’s a big hit for no loading screens, anywhere. I would expect a little more than we’re seeing though, but then it’s UE5. There are some areas where I don’t understand why we’re not seeing more frames.
