Arc Raiders

Played all morning and took an hours break. So far the balance of fun has been pretty positive. A lot more people are prepared to be friendly in solo if you say hello over the mic or use the in game emotes to indicate friendly, no one who responded friendly in return has backstabbed me yet, a couple responded with bullets which is fair enough. Probably the most fun I had was working with some utter lunatic in the center green area of the buried city, we were running around just pulling what seemed like an infinite amount of Arc until we extracted down the metro completely out of ammo and stacked. At one point I think there was about 7-8 of them on us, we were camping the bottom of the metro steps and there was this almighty racket above us.

Another round we team up at the last minute to extract with a leaper causing havoc near us, one guy batmans in through the door at the last second. I caught it on instant replay.

I'm still a bit hesitant to buy it. I won’t have much time to play during the week, and I’m concerned that after a month or so, I’ll be facing much higher ranked players. That said, if the solo mode players have been mostly friendly so far, that’s definitely a plus.

Really wanna try this but too many games recently picked up to add this as well :(
Yeah time is the major issue at the moment, I now have Farthest Frontier, Outer Worlds 2 and Arc Raiders on the go, with Tavern Keeper coming out in a few days time, then Europa Universalis 5 a couple of days after that and then Anno 117 not long after that. I need to win the lottery :D

This is the thing, everyone is pumped now, having a blast, but when the reality kinda sinks in I suspect the playstyle will change a lot. All the wide open mouthed reddit dads who are getting permission from their wives to play for a week by saving up their husband points, they're gonna be gone when the PvP nature of it overwhelms the heckin' good redditorinos. I knew I'd have reservations about the game but I also knew waiting was silly because it would likely only get worse, that the best time to play it will be at launch.

It has been a very different experience for me today than at any time during the server slam, about 8/10 rounds are positive for me. Once all the people who go like 25-30 kills in PUBG servers get good everyone is going to be punching down. The game feels very much like a product of the mentality of the playerbase at the time, that will ebb and flow somewhat as restarts happen, people enter grinds again from scratch etc. They happen once every 8-10 weeks and are voluntary and designed to keep the game fresh, it remains to be seen how many people will opt in. But it will likely effect the strategy on the field over time.

Even if you dont face higher geared players (if they have opted to wipe their characters), you will still be at a disadvantage because of the skills and map knowledge that the others have gained over that time. Kind of the nature of all competition (including non video games) is that the newer person/team is at a disadvantage against the more experienced person/team. Hence why newbies dont get into the ring with Usyk :D

If your concern is that you'll struggle against the more experienced players down the road and that those common deaths will greatly reduce your enjoyment, then yes I'd avoid the game if I was you, theres an absolute ton of good games been , and yet to come, in 2025. Missing out on one wont be a huge loss :)

Yeh but I like sweaty play and I'm a dad :p

Wheeee got my first legendary item and found it in a normal container in the middle of nowhere, not even in a medium or high loot area. Just goes to show you can get decent stuff without having to go into the loot zones :)

Exactly how I found my medium shield, in a random wardrobe in the middle of nowhere!

Played 3 ish hours of this today, had some of the best squad style games I've had of any game for a long time, really good, I love it.

"Extraction shooters always feel good when they're fresh and servers are filled with newbies. But wait, just one month, and it turns into a sweaty meatgrinder, nearly unplayable for anyone who doesn't spend the majority of their free time in the game."

It does seem like the sort of game you need to play from Day one to get the most out of it, as mentioned above. I'm really tempted by it but definitely won't be able to keep up with the masses

They (and indeed almost all online shooters or proper MMORPGs) are definitely games which require a certain attitude in order to enjoy them the most. There will be a lot of people who are coming off the back of the recently released BF6 who might be new to the PvPvE genre but will come into it on the basis that "well I've just been playing and enjoying BF6 and this is an online shooter so I'll enjoy this too" , who absolutely will not enjoy it. I cannot state firmly enough, as I do with all games, research before you buy or you may be getting into something which isnt a good fit for your tastes. :)

This is so true, tried to get into this sort of game a few times now, and they are DEFO not for me, even tried this, but again not for me, can see why people that like this sort of game would love it, just cant get into them myself.

Precisely and I would never recommend a game such as this to someone without them doing their due diligence, I could say to everyone to buy it but as a community we should be helping each other out so as to avoid anyone getting disappointed with any games they might purchase. Forewarned is forearmed as they say :)

Thanks for all the replies, if this had an option for PvE only I think I would have purchased it. I like the idea, setting etc but the PvP element just put's me right off!

Anyway going to give Outer Worlds 2 a bash this evening before my Game Pass sub run's on the 1st Nov!

Anyone fancies a game tonight with a noob my ID is TomNbk#0181 (warning, have had two beers)
Got to swap and do a bit on Farthest Frontier and/or Outer Worlds 2 for a couple of hours now but I will definitely be on every day for the next week and a half, so am happy to team up :)
