***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Part of the reason I've stopped buying is the used market is no longer there.

I could always justify buying as I knew I could basically sell a used set for new price (or more). I'd often buy 2, sell the second after discontinued. And effectively get the set nearly free.or half price.

This is no longer the case. Ebay is flooded with new sets of a fair few years ago. I think people went crazy buying to sell and now there's just too much. People are definitely selling new sets from 5 years ago for a loss now.

So really, I can't justify 500 quid on an object that sits on the shelf. I could if I could sell it for 500. But not if it's worth 200.

Marvel and Star Wars are the only 2 themes that consistently perform well once the sets have retired in the UK if speculating. Given the massive expansion of the MoC community now, there is really good money in parting out sets to sell minifigures and individual pieces but it's a huge amount of work.

But as for building then selling, very few used sets hold real rrp or rrp+ value. The right licensed minifigures do though. Other themes can be a mixed bag.

There's usually a sweet spot selling / trading window too before an updated minifigure or new version of the set is released.

However, I only tend to buy with the intention of opening and displaying but sometimes I just don't get round to it, will store for a bit, then if I'm no longer needing the set ie an updated version released or I've moved onto a different theme, I will sell on. Then you have to be the cheapest on eBay to sell.

I stick to minifigure scale and castle/medieval and pirate themes (inc bricklink designer programme) plus DC, Marvel and Star Wars for my collection.

I cracked open some 12+ year old lego DC sets to build this week that I bought at a really good price a few years ago and values have skyrocketed recently. So much so, really had to think twice about it but they were the last missing from my display...

So, new Marvel Jan 2026 sets are officially revealed and big thing for me is the huge price drops. £8.99 for the Ghost Rider and Iron Man which is the cheapest 2-pack like this for some time as they have rapidly approced rrp of £20 plus £19.99 for the Spiderman 3 Sandman 3 pack set etc.

They are going all in on the new minifig modular scale too with the daily bugle complimenting this year's ones. I'm enjoying these as very display cabinet friendly.

The buildable iron-man actually looks great too, would sit well alongside a hot toys display shelf.

I got the friendly snails freebie with a set I ordered last week that looks like it's been battered with a baseball bat. I was going to donate it to a charity for Christmas but I can't with the state the box is in.

Would anyone want it? The bags are still all intact so all the bits are there. Not wanting anything for it.

Quite, quite tempted by the Lego Enterprise. £350 is a bit pricey but I always wanted Lego to do some Star Trek stuff as well as the Star Wars. Any idea why Lego have done the D version of the Enterprise to begin with? Why not the TOS one first or at the same time as the TNG D version?!

I think because TNG was the biggest show is why that came first. They also may have done some research in to what show/ship was most popular.

They'll need to see how it feels forst to see if other ships or type of sets will be worth it.

this for sure.

They focus group the snot out of everything but it’s obvious TNG was peak trek across both TV and film.

Surely would have more sense to start with TOS Enterprise then TNG? Do it in sequence? Could understand if they had done TOS then did NX-01 or Voyager before TNG; you'd be thinking do the TOS first. Don't get why TOS, the beginning of it all, didn't get its Enterprise released first. Hopefully they will do that as its design might suit the blockiness of Lego more than the curves of TNG -D do?

licensing? Playmobil have 1701 and Bird of Prey models.

TNG as a series has lots of detail and depth to make a set interesting versus TOS, in my opinion, and those dropping £350 on a set today probably are closer in the age range for TNG. The minifigs are good for example.

I’m a bit disappointed with the set, particularly the ship itself. I liked the Bluebrixx versions better unfortunately. It looks a little off for a number of reasons. Wish I’d got those when they were more cheaply available. Since they are now discontinued I’d expect to potentially see all the same ships in Lego unless this particular set bombs. My favourite was actually the NX-01 they did, it was pretty cool.

I guess it's a really hard set to do with all the curves, but I think it looks off, almost like a Chinese copy as opposed to the usual Lego polish / finesse.

I think that is why Trek ships are harder to do because of the odd shapes and also all the curves. Doesn't lend itself well to Lego unless it can be really detailed.

I think the Bluebrixx visually look better but there is the fact perhaps the fun and quality of the build is probably superior from Lego. Depends on your priorities.

Thinking there are too many studs visible on the saucer section for me personally.
Yeah. I'm not buying lego anymore. But I'm really glad I don't like this. I'm waaaay more into star trek than star wars. But I don't think the ships work as lego models.

To flat and curvy. They'd have to be a massive to look good.

I honestly prefer visible studs, it reminds you it is Lego, the sets with smooth surfaces and hardly any studs on show could be any normal kit.

I prefer Lego to look like Lego personally.
