Arc Raiders

I wasn't that interested in this but I got it free with my graphics card, and I'm really impressed. Very tense gameplay, and at least at the early stage in the game, playing solo, it's best to avoid encounters with Arc if possible, which gives a very 'terminator' future war feel.

Biggest frustration is the PVP element, where I repeatedly die to other players. This is especially frustrating when you're trying to progress the story quests.

I am addicted to it however. I'll probably team up as soon as I think I've properly found my feet and extracting successfully more often.

Been enjoying this a lot more than the server slam. I find solo more chilled as a lot of people are friendly, when I join my friends in a squad its 100% blood bath PvP feast.

Well I mean, you have to introduce yourself into something new at some point. Only other one I even has a try on was a couple rounds of Tarkov a good number of years ago. Seemed cool but never got round to getting it myself.
If you dont try stuff outside of your lane then you will never know for sure. However, seriously those ******* drones are stupid! Completely ruining my enjoyment for the game so far.
The ARC ( robots ) pose a significant threat. Several of them are aerial drones, so be careful to look above you to look out for spotters. They have "scanning" beams that alert you to where they are looking ; a blue beam means they are just scanning, a yellow beam indicates they have been alerted to something and a red beam means they have locked onto a target. Sound is also vital in this game ; both ARC and players will be alerted to your location if you make too much noise eg. breaching a container, setting off a car alarm etc. You'll get the hang of it ; most of the time you'll end up tip-toeing around and picking your fights carefully. Don't fight everything you come across. You won't have enough ammo or firepower to do that. Go into a round / match with a clear aim and plan your extraction route early.

Also, playing solo, I've found that about 80% of the time other players are "friendly" and don't shoot you ( helps if you communicate with them first ). On the flip side, playing in groups it feels like 80% of the time other squads will try and kill you.

I only played a dozen solo's and my experience is the polar opposite. Most times a 3 hunt me down, and one game a solo must have just watched me for ten minutes before ambushing me with grenades as I put one of them field depot boxes in.

Similar experience. Played as team, team wandered off wouldn't wait for me, did a bit of looting and thought best extract and try again. Robots started attacking and then got killed by a team. Had a few more games pretty much same. Refunded.

You've been unlucky. Usually if you play solo you get put into a match against other solo players and not duos / trios. Solo players who shoot to kill often don't attempt any comms.

Playing within a team is different imo ; many squads you stumble across shoot to kill and aren't friendly.

Moot now that you've refunded of course but did you try solo or at least grouping with folks on here rather than randoms?

Yeah, squads is 100% more focused on PvP compared to solos. I've had much more friendly interactions in solos where 50% of the people I come across are spamming 'dont shoot!' - compared to squads where I think it's a shoot first approach in most instances.

A psychologist could probably do a study on how aggression levels in humans are tied to the number of humans :D

I made it to extraction finally! I didnt interact with much. kept clear of the bots and people, just a few resource boxes, cars etc. I literally aimed for the closest extraction point. Heard a big gun fight just east of me where I was headed for the elevator. Waited for it to quiet down and the bigger rocket drone bot thing to finally bugger off. When it looked like the coast was clear I quickly looted the body of a fallen raider well as much of it as I could and called the lift. Whilst I was doing that some absolute rat who I assume was extraction point camping took some shots which badly wounded me. Still managed to get round the corner of the elevator sort myself out, he tried to get me as I was entering it and thought he was being smart climbed on top and attempted to nade me. However I managed to get cover and survive whilst the elevator closed. Interesting game when you actually get somewhere. Not sure how much life its going to have for me though.

Its those sort of tense, nerve jangling moments that I just dont get in other pvp genres. I never get a moment in a BF or CoD etc where I'm on edge, knowing that the next bullet could end the round for me, yet somehow, against the odds and adrenalin pumping I manage to escape.

Also, if you get mugged at an extraction point again just be aware you can still escape by crawling into the lift / train and pressing the button whilst you are bleeding out. You can't do anything else eg. heal, shoot etc but so long as you don't get "knocked" out by an opposing player you have about a minute before you fully die. For example, yesterday I was in a group with @PrincessFrosty and @ICEx21 and we were jumped on by a trio who tossed some grenades into the lift. All 3 of us were downed ; ICE was thrown out of the lift but myself and Frosty extracted successfully because we remained inside the lift when it descended to safety.

Four attempts to find some lemons. Keep finding apricots !

Had an extraction going down into the underground station. I randomly decided to hit the "do not shoot" emoticon. Good thing I did - two raiders come of the shadows. One from behind me ! Had a dance and lightshow using our flashes and extracted
