New washing machine suggestions?

I'm about to pull the trigger on this.

Good call? Due to them being included in the various places I've lived i haven't actually bought a washing machine since about 2006.

I asked this in another thread but this thread might be more appropriate. People here are giving thumbs up to LG which I'm pleased about as I've selected two models and not sure whether to get the more basic direct drive model at £341 or the AI direct drive model at £529.

OR..

I prefer the larger and slimmer feel of the dial on the AI model with it's digital displays on the dial, and it has a nicer weighted door. Realistically I don't need all the features since I usually do one type of mixed clothes cycle and that's it. But that said, the AI might be a bit quieter, quicker washing with the turbo wash and nicer to use with AI functionality. On the other hand, I need reliability as my Samsung Ecobubble only lasted 6 years from what seems to be a PCB issue. Would either of those models linked above be as reliable as each other, given one has more electronics, which would you recommend buying? I've got Marks Electrical calling me back tomorrow regarding buying and delivering the AI model unless someone here tells me to buy the cheaper model.

Going to buy one in the next few months as I complete on a new place (hopefully) and was looking at the Bosch series 6/8. Any idea how they compare to the LG? Seimens as well, but that seems to be the same as Bosch when speaking to their rep at John Lewis.

Also may look to buy a new washing machine soon. @K.C. Leblanc as you've had this LG one for a few months now, how's it been overall since then?

Something that I've noticed in one of the reviews is that they've mentioned "you don't know how long the cycle will take until you're already committed to the wash"

Is that the case?

It's the case with some of the cycles, because it actually weighs the washing so the cycle time varies. I think it actually displays either the cycle time or a -- when you select it. However they don't seem to vary massively, it's certainly better then our old HotPoint which would sometimes go on for hours for no apparent reason.

Also if you use the delay it does the weighing when you set it going, so if you set it for 5 hours it will actually finish in 5 hours time instead of starting in 5 hours.

The only issue we've had is a tiny intermittent dribble from the door. Otherwise very happy so far, it seems to use a lot less water (and detergent) then our last washer and it's much quieter.

It also plays a happy little song when it's finished.

Ahh cool, thanks!

I wonder what's causing the intermittent dribble? Does that happen after each wash?

It can be caused by a tiny amount of dirt or even a strand of hair. Wipe the door seal and glass with a damp cloth, then dry off - this is normally enough to clean dirt away and prevent any leaks.

Disappointed guys, all I see these days is recommend a washing machine, recommend a dishwasher, recommend a tumble dryer.

What happened to you all?

Where’s all the team red v team green fanboy arguments?

Anyway, I guess we all grow up, get old and put that petty differences behind us. (Team LG all the way, none of that Hotpoint rubbish, I hear their motors are crap).

Our LG gave up after just over 2 years and was out of warranty. It wrecked a load of clothes in the process.

In hindsight I wish I had coughed up for a Bosch. Decided not to make that error again and have been happy with my Series 4 over the last couple of years.

I thought LG ones come with 5 year warranty?
