Thank you. I had trouble typing last night after a couple of drinks.
Had a 17 couple of weeks, upgrade from a 15. 256gb as usual. Got a notification saying storage is full which is weird as I thought I was miles off filling it up. Had a look at offloading some stuff and I don't really have all that much. 10gb in photos, 25g in whatsapp and messages. Not much else apart form that. IOS at the bottom is 31gb (which seems large to me) but then system data is 148gb!
I've read a few ways to reduce this but they involve using a mac which i don't have. Anybody had similar issue?

Have you turned the phone off and on? Some of the system data is cache stuff and update files. They should disappear on there own but might be worth just seeing if it goes down at all

I caved and bought a 17 Pro Max 
I've had the 17 for just over a month and as much as I tried I could not get round the smaller screen. I'm never usually THIS impulsive but I just kept thinking I needed the larger device again. So when Amazon got some stock of the Blue PM's on Tuesday curiosity got the better of me!
I haven't even finished paying off the 17 - I'm just glad the credit card doesn't show in the joint banking account
