BMW and M Power Owners

Tempted by a Portimao M340i with Cognac interior and M sport seats. Fully loaded early '22 pre-LCI car.
I think it's only missing a sunroof, 19" wheels and a tow hook.

It's not cheap though, and the cost to change from my manual F87 M2 is the north of £10k.
A quiet, refined, self-driving auto will be a nice change from the hooligan, and easy access for the kids is nice as well... Thoughts?

Sounds like it will be a better car all round to live with, certainly when it comes to family duties. Can't imagine a 3 door car with kids being fun.

I discovered something rather annoying with OS 9 -- some of the screen are clearly made for the steering on the other side, and haven't been "translated"; for example, in that screen you literally have to stretch and reach to change the settings; and there's no way you can keep your eyes on the road when doing that.

Rather annoyed by this TBH, this is dangerous!

[Well you would have seen the image if I could insert the link, but I can't so sod it]

I noticed that in a hire carl recently but just assumed it was bad design. Didn't realise it might be due to LHD!

Cost to change is much more than I thought, and there'll always be that part of me that is annoyed it isn't an M3......
Will see if we can meet in the middle, and what that number is, but doubt it'll make sense financially.

Some V8 noise for anyone interested. Much faster since the suspension setup (camber and uniball bushes), brakes are Hawk HP+ which are noisy!
Evolve Carbon intake and remap.

The Evolve intake sounds epic. Several of the lads I go to the Ring with run these in various states of tune, but all modified to lesser or greater extent. Last time I was there I took my friends 600bhp turbocharged version around with lots of work done. Such a fun car on track though I got a black flag for noise as I hadn't turned off the noise. Good job was I only spotted it when I got back to the paddock area. Another lad and I did the siting lap together, me in my old Merc, him in his E92 and both went sideways at the first breaking area as our cups were cold and the track was damp.

had quite a long chat with a BMW tuning guy yesterday ..... seems it will be a real problem getting a remap for my 1 series as too new and BMW have hobbled the potential anyway. Spoilsports!

one summer when i had the E92, my wife was given a Cayman S as a courtesy car when her 4 series was badly tonked (i know, sounds too good to be true right?) ... two months of me ragging the porka at every opportunity.
I took the Cayman out a few times as well.

Question about modern BMW's

Regardless of whether you take (for example) the parking plus pack when ordered, do the cars still come with all the cameras installed anyway, so you can just pay later in the BMW ConnectedDrive store?

The parking Plus to Pro you can upgrade from the car (around 200+ quid for "lifetime" upgrade -- I did it on mine, it gives you the auto-parking, self park/unpark, plus a few other goodies) however the driving assistant "plus" to "pro" requires a different hardware, better cameras etc so you can't get the same level of features.

For parking, I think you need *at least* the "plus" package tho, I don't think they add the hardware/harness if the option was not taken at all at order time.

Thought that was likely to be honest.

Good deal came up on an i5 M60 but it doesn't have the HUD nor the Parking Assist Plus...or a heated steering wheel

The more stuff you get used to, the more you want it again on subsequent cars

Seeing as it's Friday, I thought I'd make @DJMK4 's day, and let him know that I scanned my car last night!

I still haven't come down from the excitement.

Had the i4 M50 for a week now, and I did not expect this, but I've not turned the Hans Zimmer fake engine noises off yet.

I like the way EVs do what they do in near silence, it's also more honest. The noises this thing makes at high power are just a bit silly really and not my thing. But they've given it another kind of noise at low power, when you're just increasing your speed a little bit, and it feels just like the V10 in my old S6 did, quite satisfying. I'm probably still going to turn it off after a while, but I'm beginning to see why fake noises work and why BMW keep using them.
