Valve Index 2 (codenamed Deckard) Standalone

My guess is it'll be around £800.

I was thinking sub £400

I ain't paying more than that. It ain't even OLED ffs. What makes it worth £800? Maybe I am missing something?

No your not, I can’t see this going anywhere if it’s not priced similarly to the quest.

Meta doesn’t have the manufacturing clout either, they are a software company that makes nothing else.

Steam Deck OLED is approx £500, and that is a lot simpler than the Frame.

Valve mentioned there will be a 256gb and a 1tb version so perhaps the 256 would be a bit cheaper than my estimate.

Can't see it being less than £700, though I would love to be proved wrong on that.

I do like the people saying they're still using ancient headsets, saying they didn't want to have to use their facebook accounts on meta...

What gets me is the people who are using Rift S or Civ 1 headsets give out about Meta and about how they will never get any of my data and they aren't getting any of my money.

Hello?? they already have your data and you are currently using one of their headsets!!

People are stupid.

One thought that occurred to me is that the battery is not part of the main unit, so how is that going to work with 3rd party headstraps? Are they going to replace the battery too? That'll make them even more expensive. Can you move the battery across to the other headstrap? Where will they put the additional battery?

Also, I know a lot was made about how good the wireless PCVR is, but can you still do wired PCVR?

Like Glenimp says, you will have to replace almost the whole thing. There is a proprietary connector too. 3rd Party Headstraps are going to be expensive!!

The Steam Frame is all about the Wireless, no wired PCVR. I won't say for a 100% that it will never have wired connection. It might come later using that proprietary connector mentioned above. But I doubt it.

Even with that, it'll come to price. If they can hit close to the q3 price mark, they'll be OK. My fear would be that they're going to struggle to hit £470, and even if they get close, 2 years into production, it wouldn't surprise me if Meta could cut their prices on the 3, the 3s is already crazy cheap brand new.

It's not going to come close to the £470 price point. I can almost guarantee you that. By the sounds of all the talk coming from the various first impression videos, they are struggling to get it under the $1000 price point. I think it's going to be $999, only so they can say it's under $1000

My guess is it'll be around £800.

I think it's going to be £999. By the time you add Vat and Shipping to the US price it will be close to £1000.

If it does release at that price point then it'll have quite a short half-life. Perversely, if they made this device the only way to play Half-Life 3 then they might sell more, begrudgingly.

I agree, I think the people who would pay £1000 for a Headset would have no trouble paying more if it had better panels and was powerful enough to be able to play even demanding VR games standalone.

I wonder will they have some kind of Half Life Standalone VR game as a launch title when it releases?

It will be on a ROM chip built into the headset :p

If it does cost almost a grand (I'm going to guess ~£850-£899) then I don't know who this headset is aimed at.

If it is that price then it's too expensive for VR newbies and mainstream, and it's just not a good enough headset for VR enthusiasts. 6 year old+ LCD panel tech and low res? Come on man.

Hi, Meta kinda does have manufacturing clout, in that they can make an order for headsets to be manufactured in the millions instead of the lesser amounts of other brands, which means bigger/longer contracts for the manufacturers, which they prefer.

I really hope Valve shocks everyone and prices it really competitively but doubt they will. Just can't see past that resolution in 2026 and crap passthrough.

Tbf the Q3 still looks really good imo at a similar resolution. From experience I can say (imo) 2K LCD panels + amazing lenses is better than 4K OLED + sub-par lenses.

The quest 3 is not exactly a high volume product. It’s done about a million units.

Steam deck has sold about 4 million.

Sure the latter has been out a lot longer but the quest 3 outsold the 2 and the 1 so combined the steam deck has probably sold more units still.

I just can’t see a world where Meta has more manufacturing clout than valve. Both have a little bit but they are very similar in reality and neither ships that much in terms of volume.

They’ll need to price it competitively or it’s DOA.

It'll sell at that price, but it won't hit general public attention.

You keep saying 1 million, but that was reported over a year ago, only 8 months after launch.

That also ignores the quest 3s, which looks like it sold over a million as well by a year ago.

Remember Valve are sucking 30% out of most of the PC gaming market for doing very little. It's like like they don't have the revenues to support a decent product development effort.

Not sure where you're getting your figures from, I think Q3 has sold more than that and afaik the Q2 alone sold about 20 million, it out sold the equivalent Xbox afaik.
