A PC running SteamOS of course, so runs more efficiently for gaming than Windows does. There was an article today I think on PCG stating that Steam machine is coined having better performance in games than 75% of actual PCs on the Steam DB so this is pretty damn huge leap in performance.

Valve made the claim, and they said 70% Even if the claim is true, it's not as big a performance jump as you might think. Like the top 15 GPUs in the Steam DB account for 40% of the GPUs. The most powerful card in that top 15 is the 4070. 3 are integrated GPUs and 9 are 3050 performance or less. When you start to look at the numbers, you realise that been better than 70% of the Steam DB isn't going to be that powerful.

For the market it's aiming at, the price will be a major factor in how well it does. It's not as powerful as a PS 5 and you can get one of those for $500. If the Steam Machine is $500, then we have a winner. If it's $800, well that's going to be a much harder sell.

It comes with the controller so that's an ~£80 item included.
I won't be buying one as i have a PC and a Steamdeck but I'd like for this to succeed. it'll do gaming, especially linux gaming a big boost.

Maybe the announcement will be that HL3 would see you accompanied by a quippy sidekick for the entire duration of the game… if they decided to make it.

*two seconds after entering a room*
“Maybe try moving those barrels over there to get up on that ledge…?”
*moves barrels*
“Woah, good job, have you been working out?”
