Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

You will be alpha testing that game for years to come. Let me know once it is in beta. I am more of a beta tester ;)

I guarantee you I've spent less time in that game than you have spent beta testing one game :p

How long you spend on Stalker 2 ;)

One award show down, Golden Joystick, and E33 is seven awards up which includes GOTY and soundtrack.

Well earned and deserved and hopefully it sweeps other award shows.

Hard to believe that soundtrack was created by some random guy they found on Soundcloud.

It just goes to show how much untapped talent is out there waiting to be found, E33 deserves every single award its received imo but especially that one. I've not been blown away by a game soundtrack to this extent since Deus Ex: Human Revolution from back in 2011.

This is great news. Hopefully Square take notice. Enough of the action crap in Final Fantasy games. Get back to turn based ffs.

I don't even know why they keep trying to "reinvent" the series with increasingly crap real time combat.

Dragon Quest proved TB works incredibly well in a JRPG in current times and now E33 has hammered the nails in, but what's worse is Square published the likes of Star Ocean for decades and despite what anyone might think of the games the series has some of the best real time combat in the genre by a good margin. All they needed to do was copy that formula and they'd have been golden, the only half way decent "real time" I've seen in FF is with the FF7 remakes and it still falls short by comparison.

Reactions: TNA
I pop in and out of the game as i do with a few other games but im wondering if there is an endgame in this after the credits roll?

Not really endgame per se, there is additional content that unlocks such as a couple of zones, story related side quests and a few unique bosses, in my opinion worth doing.

Totally swept up again, full deserved

Wasn't wotshisface very sure of himself this wouldn't win lol.

Edit. Just realised, so it was never snubbed for The Golden Joysticks because it won GOTY there too.

I slept the whole event so it's been amazing news to wake too.

Nine awards in total.

• Game of the Year
• Best RPG
• Best Narrative
• Best Art Direction
• Best Score & Music
• Best Game Direction
• Best Debut Indie Game
• Best Independent Game
• Best Performance (Jennifer English)

I saw a comment on YT that said "Sandfall Interactive makes GAMING history!- first debut game to win Game of the Year- Most nominated game in game awards history- Most wins EVER in game awards history."

So E33 didn't just get what it deserves it also made history.

Unless new categories are made I see this record standing for a long time. Something like GTA6 could sweep a game award show but Rockstar aren't winning best indie game and debut indie game etc.

I like this from Shift Up too, the Stellar Blade devs.

And DLC, which is released now!

Looks like we get quite a bit of content, for free. Copied from IGN, this is what’s noted.

  • A new, playable environment, taking the characters of Expedition 33 to 'Verso’s Drafts’ - a whimsical storybook adventure with ties to a young Verso. Players will encounter celebratory Gestrals, surprising new locations and an encounter with a sinister, powerful presence...
  • New music tracks by Lorien Testard, the award-winning composer behind the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 soundtrack, which are also now available on digital streaming platforms. You can listen to the playlist on YouTube here.
  • Challenging boss battles for late-game players to overcome within the Endless Tower. Besting these powerful adversaries will reward players with powerful new Pictos, costumes and gear.
  • A much-requested official Photo Mode, allowing players to pause the action and commemorate their favorite moments from the game’s story and battles.
  • New text and UI game localizations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.
  • Added FSR 4 support, including AMD temporal upscaling for sharper visuals and frame generation for smoother gameplay on compatible GPUs.
  • New Quality of Life improvements, other new features and further improvements to the game’s performance across platforms, including on handheld PC systems.

Is this really deserving of all the accolades?

I'll probably get it at some point (because of the hype) but I have a sneaky feeling I won't like it.

Refantazio was also highly rated and hated that.

It's easily my GOTY, but then I'm a fan of JRPG's and this very much follows that sort of formula.

Fantastic story, characters, voice actors, soundtrack, and very solid gameplay.

I also very much enjoyed Metaphor: ReFantazio for reference.
