The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Great work! Sandbagging is why you found it 'fun' at the top of category! ;)

But you're going well to make the climb selections & have enough to sprint alongside a great finish! Consider getting flagged confirmation of that - see the note from WTRL that they're upholding the zMAP power DQ flags if they caused an upgrade after first removing them... So yeah you're in B now. Find a Dev B team (have several of them in R3R if your club doesn't) ;)

I'm very jealous of the C+D getting Everything Bagel - not just because I love bagels, but you only did the 2 KOM's once with 20km between them! In B we did 2 laps of Rising Empire which meant both climbs each lap with only 3-4km between them! It was brutal

Even the glass ramp early in the lap was a 5.0w/kg+ effort to stay in. Trimmed 5s off my PR up NYC KOM (4.3w/kg avg then doing 5-6w/kg at the top) but was not enough so still dropped soon after, but half of our field was - front group at 20-25 riders after 56 starters & 52 finishers. It was absolutely savage and far harder than I expected for B3 coming home in 30th! My legs where not the best on a course which would normally suit me (longer & attrittional) but my team took the win (R3R Wasp - Cobalt B3) with just great efforts all round with riders coming in 13, 20, 21, 27, 29 & 30th at the finish, without any top10's on segments. So a balanced performance across every part while other teams had a wider spread of points.
Yeah seems this round has been a bit on the contentious side! Been reading quite a bit on forums, FB etc about it. Seems like they used that course almost as a way of weeding the sandbaggers out with those two sharp climbs. They flagged a load of us, then cleared us but logging on yesterday again they have DQ'd me and the other 3 of the top 4. My team (TBR - Pink) have a B grade team in the dev league so they have moved me into that.

Nice effort on the NYC KOM. For reference I also PB'd it at 4:19. 3:10 on the NYC KOM Reverse.
All my numbers are going up so it's encouraging to see the work paying off. I like to do some sort of random race on a friday morning, looked when I got up today at 5:30am and didn't fancy the options of B grade or racing scores of up to 650. Remembering when I first entered C to regularly lose the front group early and find myself alone for the bulk of the kms. Maybe next week.
Did the basecamp sprint thing in Scotland instead and hit an all time best of 1,270w for 5 seconds. :)

I officially have a love hate relationship with Zwift climb portal. It's good fun but it's also demoralising doing a 1 hour and 40 minute climb to find yourself in position 8/13 at the top

Just going to tell myself that being at the back of the population on Zwift isn't as bad as it's at the back of a group of people who take cycling seriously-ish. Let me live in my delusion.

Nah, its completely true. Its like going anywhere that is a big cycling paradise. Around me I am a reasonably good cyclist. I got to Mallorca and look at the segments on Strava and I'm bang middle of the road. On any training app you are going to have the people who are the keenest.

I'm now in the grove so the only way is up I guess! the monthly climb portal was good. I thought it looked fairly easy as it was 'only' 1209 meters of elevation over 18km but it was still a slog with a few surprise 20% moments to wake me up.

I was tempted to stop and change my trainer difficulty down from ~75% to 50% as I could've down with a few lower gears but the thought of stopping and starting again put me off.

Though when all was said and done I really enjoyed getting it done and now I want to try the other long climbs. Mt Hamilton (31.3km/3/5%) and Mt Fuji (26.6km/4.7%) as after a while I quite enjoy the mental battle going on in my heads.

Another 4000m to go and I've completed the Aethos. Then I can leave the elevation alone for a while as I try and upgrade the Allez Sprint.

Anyone spotted any good turbo deals, ideally sub £500?

Seems my Saris H3 bought Easter '22 has gone pop, replacement power supply arrived today, which does turn H3 light on but solid red... Which isn't giving "bootloader" sensor option in Saris app to reinstall firmware.

Tried using my 4iiii crank power meter for Zwift yesterday afternoon, but flywheel resistance is low, only giving me ~85W.
Trying to decide if I can be bothered to set up my old semi-broken Direto and use 4iiii with that in short term, but flywheel resistance is high, iirc lowest power I could get was ~160W in early '22 before buying the H3.

Humbled back down to reality in B grade WTRL last night. 3 laps of London Loop Reverse. Dropped on the first fox hill climb. Finished 13/21. 5 minutes behind the front group. :o

The JetBlack Victory seems to review super well.

Core2 with Cog is £499. No brainer. Only other thing would be watching for a refirb Core1 from Wahoo to see if you could get the Zwift ride with it for the same price.

Brutal wasn't it! https://www.strava.com/activities/16498715529

In our B3 the first climb blew things apart. I crested in 35th from 45 riders and the front group was easily 20+ riders know I was in for a long night! Lots of scattered bodies around also meant lots of opportunity. Focus then on grouping up and sitting in getting ready for the next time up. With some closing efforts we grouped to 7 riders and just before second climb we caught a teammate (Matt) and a couple more. Matt was going well and made the climb selective - I had to chase back up to him, crested as 5-6 and we both attacked down with double anvils. Didn't work. Grew group again - while also some from behind caught up. 12-15 riders so again Matt made it selective on the climb and front became a 4up, I couldn't quite stay with them, so eased and settled in with 2 others behind making sure we had a gap to the rest. They took turns attacking downhill, the second of which worked and guy had a gap. I sat on knowing I had more power after waiting up for them at the top, playing my cards for the finish as I'd saved my anvil. With a 5s gap between I surged across it slingshotting up the escalators. Perfect. Sat on again, knowing I needed to go long while also watching for the downhill for the anvil - it was later than expected! Good slingshot & surge expecting him to follow. Nothing. Kept the power on then, he did a little 4-5w/kg effort last 200m but no real sprint. Must have been cooked! Gap 50m even before then. Finished 26th and Matt up front had 22nd. Team took 12th, 20st, 21st, 22nd, 26th & 31st. Fantastic showing by them all! Wilfried up front (20nd) had actually done half a lap solo between groups 2 and 3 nearly bridging up but didn't quite make it. Team taking 2nd on the night just again from everyone finishing well.

Nope. 3 clubmates have them, all are riding warranty replacements and one got to his 3rd and gave up. Just unreliable. 3rd guy (Stevie) having been through different smart bikes (Wattbike-Neo-Stages-Wattbike) over a few years knows his trainers. He came back to the Ride+JetBlack for electronic/Hub gearing and is now on the Core 2. Still has his Neo bike and admits to not even looking at it since he got the Core2.

Concerningly interesting regarding the Victory, I was starting to think that was the one.

If it's still valid like the other day, Road.cc had a 20% promo code for a Core 2 from the Zwift shop for £399.

I'm back riding my OG Direto that sat gathering dust for ~3.5 years after replacing it with the H3, flywheel still rotates like covered in molten treacle, minimum power through 4iiii to turn pedals is ~150W at sub 60rpm cadence in easiest 34/34 gear... Not great when I have a ~215W threshold these days and much prefer 85-90rpm cadence!

Edit: Road.cc code expired 9th Nov, failed on checkout page, best code I can see is £50 off (10%) and then get charged £20 for delivery.

The one time I tried it, it crashed 1.2 miles in and lost it, so I wasn't about to risk a long ride on it.

This weekend I signed back up to Zwift, using it Saturday morning to complete a 1 hr 15 TrainerRoad session, which is one of the longer workouts I've done. There's quite a lot new, since I last subbed (or, the features were just coming out) so I'll jump on a few challenges after work and start working towards that S-Works SL8

Had so many crashes running it on PC. My friend runs it on his Android phone and says it's much more stable so may give that ago.
interesting, I run it on windows 10 pc been using on and off for a year now and haven't had any crashes. Wife also uses it and not had any issues..

I know you have a dead H3, but Trez have the H3+ for £279 at the moment...

normal one, didn't even know that they had a HD version of it! :)
Gave it a go this evening, definitely seems more stable.
The whole ecosystem still has it's issues, I can't seem to change my weight or height from 91kg and 100cm.
It's not uploaded today's activity to the web either. Not really fussed though I record the rude on my Edge anyway just use it for the workouts and FTP test. Can't really fault it considering it's free.
