Hi.

Thought I would start up Alien Rogue VR tonight and check it out and that's where my issues have started...

Initially, the game loaded up fine, and I went through the options.

It did say to turn the game off and set the Meta Quest app to be the OpenXR Runtime which I did, now it won't start.

In fact worse than that as my machine shuts down instantly now when even opening SteamVR :(

Any ideas?

Thanks

On the first review on the Steam store it says

If you're using a quest, download the meta app on your computer, then click the openXR runtime tab and switch it to quest. Once you're done with that, click link under settings on your actual quest and connect it to you're computer and launch the game from there.

Which I have done. The SteamVR page loads up very breifly as in the VR games kind of load up greyish before coming onto the Quest fully and then my machine literally reboots.

Did you have problems with Steam VR before this?

How are you connecting to your PC? Using Airlink? Steam Link? Virtual Desktop?

My first piece of advice would be to uninstall Steam VR and reinstall it. The second piece of advice would be to try Steam Link and see do you have issues playing the game.

Thanks for replying.

Been running if on/off for about 2 years. SteamVR direct with a cable.

I took off the Meta App. And repaired the SteamVR install. I did notice after posting that Meta on the headset would keep saying cable detected do you want to connect which I of course clisked on yes to.

But it would not pair with the PC. Rebooted many times headset and machine. Re-seated the cable and used different ports.

Just weird, and alarming that it shuts the machine off.

To throw something else into the mix its the first time I have tried VR with my new 9070XT...

I'll have another look later after work.

When I say turns the machine off.

This happens if I just try to run a Steam game direct from the Meta app on the headset from the recent app list. If it's not seeing the headset I can see this being an issue, but to shut off the machine... Why not just an app crash!

Just to add.

This did start happening with the Alien game. I was actually in the game and that and it said to use the Meta app to change the OpenXR setting to use the Meta App (desktop).

So I went to the app and changed it from Steam.

As mentioned I have since uninstalled the app and changed the OpenXR setting back to Steam within the SteamVR app to no avail.

Machine shutting off implies a serious driver issue, or can even be due to an overloaded PSU.

Does the machine restart or shut down? If it restarts then it's likely a blue-screen due to a driver issue. Shutting down implies a PSU issue.

What PC hardware do you have?

Shuts down.

Hmm... My previous GPU, the 6700 was having the same sort of issues and re-seating the power connectors sorted that (this was a while back now). That was the only part of the machine I bought second hand. Part being (off the top of my head) a Corsair 850W Platinum fully modular.

That's a a good PSU, shouldn't have any problem with that. Have you tried looking at the windows event log? It can tell you what caused a shutdown.

Yep had a quick look at the event log around the Kernal entries but nothing jumped out at me.

Also by that time I was really "frustrated". I have a better look this eve.

Thanks.

It's very rare to have an instant shutdown, and not a reboot. Normally that is due to the PSU being overloaded and tripping out.

3090 GPUs could generate large transient power spikes that could trip some PSUs, I had this happen to me a couple of times.

Does it happen with other VR games?
