Hi Fi System for around £600.

Was a bit of a billy bargain, sounds great - original retail price was over £1,500. He's got it hooked up to a pair of Monitor Audio 20SE's that he bought for £15 from a car boot sale of all places. :D

Looks like the OP is considering going over budget anyway judging from the above posts.

Omnia - £400
12.1 - £179 (could drastically reduce costs with second hand speakers)
LP60X- £119

Speaker wire etc should only be £20, another £30 for some stands assuming he even needs them and isn't putting the speakers on a table or something.

Edit: £77 for Diamond 9.1's: clicky link.

Accepts offers, they look mint and you can get them new for £110-120 so I'd offer a cheeky £60-70 inc delivery and see if he bites.

I'm told the Melody X is a good piece of kit, but the aforementioned Omnia is probably higher end. I've not listened to either personally so I can't testify, but that's not a bad combo by any means and does have a nice aesthetic.

You can’t get an Omnia for £400.

It's £750 at RS.

Used prices for some aged but decent kit to get you started. Not sure where you live but loads of decent Hi-Fi to be found used.

I don’t have Facebook unfortunately. I’ll keep looking online.

Not bad at all tbh, the 9.1's punch well above their weight too. For all you can get them for £100-120 new, they crap all over some bookshelf speakers I've heard at triple that.

Cables/connectors + £20, stands + £30 (if even needed).

I mentioned this earlier, but I bought these for less than £30 a year or two back when setting up a stereo system for a friend, they're not super-premium but they're very solid bits of kit.

The only real downside imo is the lack of cable management on them, but that's easily solved with a little bit of tape, or two minutes with a drill.

Had a hunt in some of my purchase history:

5m of speaker cable, I believe it's copper clad aluminium: link here - £5.75

Banana plugs are easy enough to find.

You'll find functionally identical "brand" name speaker cables out in the market running for many times that, there's a reason cable companies tend to argue against blind testing.
