Quest 3 owners etc

where you meant to put that comment in the steam frame thread ?

No, the point is that VR on Linux isn't currently viable, same as gaming on Linux wasn't really viable until the Steam Deck and Proton really pushed compatibility forward.

Steam Frame will hopefully make it viable to run PCVR on Linux, and that will help Quest 3 on Linux PCVR too.

looking at possibly getting a quest 3, my question is are there any owners here that use it wirelessly connected to their pc using wifi 7 ?
my pc is etherneted! to my BT router with the wankiest wifi ever, but my pc (motherboard) came with wifi 7 included, i know its not just going to all bolt together, i have seen some videos of various windows 11 settings to tweak using the pc wifi, but if its possibe think i will wait for a xmas/new year sale and get a Q3

not wifi 7 but i think the headset only suyppots 6e.
i usse wifi 5 works well, or a wired connection depending what imn doing and were.
no reason i can think of your setting doesnt work through

if you have an old router see if it supports access point mode
and put it between the pc andyour eithernet connection would be my suggestion

thanks for taking the time to reply, i did read somewhere that connecting the quest to wifi 7 jangles with its wifi, so you need to disable the 6ghz frequency,

re access point, yeah i dont have an old router, i do have an eero 6E that is sat in the living room providing the wifi (BTHub wifi disabled) i was toying with replacing the bthub with an another eero 6E and using both of them in mesh, but i guess i could leave the living room one as wireless and the other as an access point (kinda pointless for it to be wireless in that part of the house anyway)

i just thought the wifi7 on the pc was sat wasting away, so would be a shame to not put it to use

8k videos usually work fine on Quest 3. Have you tried copying the video locally onto the device as it might be your network/wifi or source device are too slow to stream it smoothly?

Do you know what format the video is in?

I didn't try that, it was streaming. My internet is 1 Gbps and the Quest 3 has a dedicated Wifi6 router. It wouldn't even buffer, it just stopped.

Did you try it? The results can vary. It might work really well for you, it might be utter crap. Windows Hotspots are iffy at best. There used to be a whole process you had to go through to get it setup to work with Quest headsets, not sure if it's still the case.

I have bought one yet, just working out the options, at this point id be suprised to see a steam frame in my hands by february, and even then im a little worried, as there has been nothing shown about its actual VR capabilities, so im kinda resigned to the fact i'll probably be getting a quest 3 even if its just to fill the gap!, but i dont think im gonna be dissapointed with the quest 3, does seem to get a lot of praise for the money

Well, the Steam Frame should be better than the Quest 3 as far as standalone or PCVR goes. I would be very surprised if it wasn't. I wouldn't be worried about that side of things. It's the price is the biggest concern, for me at least.

I do agree that there is very little chance of it been released by February. However, they did say Quarter 1, but with the ram/shortage price increases, not sure they will be able to stick to that. Stranger things have happened. There should be some communication from Valve early in the New Year, so hopefully we will get some concrete info on release dates and prices.

they would have to have ordered the ram/cpu in advance of production, we're talking like 12-24 months in advance in some instances. for for 1st release date i dont think it wlll be a problem.
it'll be the restock which will be the issue.
they may be debating pricing at the moment though, to take account of future price costs and expected orders.

I know this is the quest 3 thread, which is a bit confusing with all the talk about the Steam Frame, but this is the absolute worse time to be launching new hardware..

Also given the specs and predicted price, I wonder if they'd be better putting the launch off for at least 12 months.. see what Q4 brings, and compete with that.. because at the moment, if they prioritise profit, the steam frame just feels dead in the water..

Worst time in what way?
