Quest 3 owners etc

The RAM situation probably and the ever increasing prices, including storage.

That could be why at this point there has been no launch date announced.

If prices keep increasing then the worst time is actually the longer you leave it though surely?

I thought they were alluding to something like it being just after Christmas, which I was going to suggest that I don't think the kind of people who are spending this much money on a headset are going to be that bothered.

Component prices will level out and drop again, as they always do, as more fabs come online to take advantage of the huge prices, the glut of inventory will force the price down.. it's simple economics..

Or maybe because all the memory fabs have moved onto HBM4 or whatever it is in the next gen IA chips.. then consumer memory will stay high for a considerable time..

That could be years down the line though, by which case that headset is already outdated?

they would have to have ordered the ram/cpu in advance of production, we're talking like 12-24 months in advance in some instances. for for 1st release date i dont think it wlll be a problem.
it'll be the restock which will be the issue.
they may be debating pricing at the moment though, to take account of future price costs and expected orders.

That may be right in normal times, but, after covid, I would be very surprised if companies don't have clauses built into contracts now in case of abnormal events occurring that cause much higher than normal price rises.

And the situation at the moment with memory and storage is worse than during Covid.

I would say Valve have had to renegotiate their entire order, or are in the process of doing so.

To me it almost feels like it already is.. it's not really pushing any boundaries.. It's arguably very simliar to a Q3, better in some ways, and not as good in others, which is what 3 years old?

Not having followed the development or much of the news since the announcement, it is more of the Valve aspect of it that I am more excited about.
A headset that has a primary gaming focus, rather than one where Meta pushes still the likes of Horizons and the somewhat obscure gaming store, that seems secondary.

I get what you mean, but i've never had an issue with my Q3.. they can push whatever they want.. and I can continue to ignore it, while they subsidise my hardware for me.. and hopefully continue to provide a platform where developers can produce VR games, and hope to make some sort of profit...

I don't disagree. I mean the fact it wasn't OLED straight away makes me not too bothered, but I'm all for dropping anything related to Meta so that is probably enough for me.

I have not really had an issue, but it doesn't mean that things cannot improve for a gamer with Valve's involvement.
It might encourage Steam devs to consider the VR aspect of a PC game, offering official support, than just relying on mods etc
Having a card slot on the headset offers opportunities also.
That also could apply for their Steam box, meaning a gaming focussed built PC with a very well established library.

We shall see

Time will tell but it's good to see more competition in the VR sector as it was getting to a point where Meta where basically the only horse in town.

However, I suspect we'll see a Meta Quest 4 with better specs and a lower price than the Steam Frame by the end of 2026. Though the PC dongle/Wifi compatibility, Steam Eco-system support and the fact it's not Meta/Facebook will make it preferable to many even at a higher price.

Nice to have options :)

Thanks for all the referral links. I've set up a meta quest account, but now actually opened the quest itself yet. I'll maybe do that today or maybe just when my son opens it tomorrow.

When I click on someone's referral link though, nothing happens. Just opens the horizon app and stays on the home screen. Do I need to add the quest to my account before the referral will work?

Also, what are the must have games right now? And is the horizon plus subscription service worth it?

Create a Meta account and ensure you are logged in. Click on the referral link that you wish to use and then press the blue button to accept that. Then register your headset.

A lot of information here for you..;..

enjoy your headset, I'm sure that you will :)

Always good advice and help within this forum.

Thanks. Tried this and no joy. Just loads the meta app and does nothing

Do I need to be actual friends with the person who sends the referral? Either on Facebook or meta horizon?

No, AFAIK. Does this help, guessing you are using a mobile and not a PC..?

If you are already logged in to your newly created account then click on the referral link you wish to use and allow that link to be open with your browser, where you are logged in. Then register your newly bought Quest 3.

It asks you whether to open an external app or continue to open with your browser, use the browser. :)

You do for App/Game referrals, but as far as I'm aware not for device referrals. I thought the process for the purchaser was:

1) Create a Meta account
2) Accept a referral
3) Turn on and register your new Meta quest headset
