EV general discussion

On the north facing roof? It's also not the same shape as the front. The neighbour across the road has the same house as us, you can see what the rear roof looks like.

Yes, facing used to be important when the system (panels/inverter) were more expensive than the one off soft costs like labour and scaffold, and the panels were much lower producing. It is now commonly seen as sensible to fit as much as you can, as you will achieve more kW in the duller months, and if you care about payback, it will payback faster as you export way more in the sunny months.

Isn’t it rather expensive to rely on public ? I had a R5 on order then I saw one, looked inside and cancelled it. Tiny thing. Small battery and terrible charging speed. It’s only just come out and seems a generation behind (and it’s built like cheese). Glad I stuck to the MEB offer tbh.
More expensive than charging at home but not noticeably any more expensive for me than running a petrol car was. I've got a couple of decent affordable options for charging near me which help, if I was reliant on the bigger networks it'd be more expensive.

I had a SEAT Leon before and can't say the slight reduction in size has bothered me. The boot is a bit smaller bit still plenty usable, I don't sit in the back so the lack of room there doesn't concern me and the front is plenty spacious, and the overall quality is on par or better than my Leon was and looks far more interesting than a lot of other cars I was considering at the same time. I could make some disparaging remarks about your choice of car but I'm a bit more mature than that.

Didn’t like the Elroq drive. Need to get an i4 test drive booked in.
It'll be no contest, having driven them both, but then with the differences in class and cost the i4 should be better. Are you going for a preowned?
The issue I had with the Skoda, and other makes based upon the same platform, is the lack of feel from the brakes. From what I've heard the rear drums are being upgraded to disc on the revised version which may improve them.

No I didn't contradict myself, my point all along was I wouldn't spend £30k on that type of EV. You can get basically the same car for £15-20k and have £10k left over.

I’m sorry, when you posted this…

“all the older EVs seem quite dated at this point and I wouldn't want any of them at £30k which is a hell of a lot of money”.

I thought you meant in their efficiency and charging curves etc.

I guess it depends on preference. For the price I spent on a 21 month old Cupra Born V3 77kWh, I could have had a very high spec approved used I-Pace or E-Tron 55.

The brakes were the worst. Pre-owned on the i4 yea.

Yup we have a Born and I’ve had an I-Pace… wife loves the Born and I preferred the I-Pace (in the rare times I didn’t have a traction battery problem but that’s another story). Plus examples of both can be found for well south of 30k :)

My mates i4 M50 is a nice car, however it was a “deal” from NHSFleet so had no options on it, we both say that compared to my i5 M60 Ultimate it feels very basic, 1st world problems and all that!

Even a standard i5 M60 is severely lacking in many options that the Ultimate has. I nearly went for one this year but the ultimate was twice the price on a lease and I couldn't accept the poverty spec in what should be the range topper.

Standard BMW that. Absolute bare bones as everything is an optional extra.
Very annoying on the top of the range model to not have the extras!

I struggled to find an i4 M50 with the packs that I wanted on it and the HK Speaker upgrade on the LCI i4 which I why I ended up getting the Etron GT instead. I could find them with 2 of the 3 packs and the speakers or all 3 packs but no speaker upgrade. The only 1 i could find was 5 hours away which at this time of year was a no go with the trains all over the place.

Yeah, the deal I got the ultimate pack, towbar and home charger added £70 a month onto my nett cost, would have been rude not to!

Yep, we have an early i5 m60 on the fleet in work, its has a couple of packs. But it’s laughably missing simple things like adaptive cruise.. Granted, we did get an amazing business lease on it… They clearly struggled to sell them.

bad man very bad man - £18-25% ev charge in london ccz from today

Older generation borns/id3's still don't have the newer efficient 550 motor and invaluable pre-conditioning if you don't have a home charger,
which is one of the reasons I'm not in one, & I4 had seemed as though it would be smaller in the back for passengers, but used were too expensive >£20K when I looked,
so, surprised it would fit Lie's bill versus a suv IX3; explorer suv with the 550 is easily in the £30K zone.

So when the 550 motor is in the vw's you're getting an ev?
