Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Not sure whether to post this in here or in the drivers thread. I have an AW3225QF and am trying to make a custom resolution so I can play arc raiders at 3840/1600 - basically to give my 3080 a bit of breathing room, but when I go into Nvidia control panel the customise button is greyed out and I can't make any changes. I'm not sure if this is to do with the DSC or what... can anyone help? I'm on 581.57 drivers. Thanks

Would it not make sense to just lower some of the in-game settings rather than drop the resolution entirely? In this case, I think it will look really bad

DLSS perf transformer model will look far better than reduced settings and/or at a lower res.

But I believe DSC does cause issues with not being able to use custom resolutions.

I'll give it a go, but I'm already running 4k performance so I'd have to go ultra performance to see any extra frames, and 3 series and transformer will cost me a few frames as well

Works for me so it's nothing to do with DSC, create custom resolution is not greyed out here.
It's because of DSC, you've got a 5090 so have more display heads available on the 5000 series to support custom resolutions even with DSC enabled. 3000 series (and 4000) can't create custom resolutions whilst using DSC but they can create them when not using DSC and then use them after!

So it's just a case of swapping to HDMI 2.1 and enabling 'console legacy mode' on this particular monitor, then creating the custom res, then swapping back to DP 1.4 and going from there.

Amazing. I just need to get 2.1 cable now!!

Edit - one came in the box. I'll report back tomorrow

I noticed some tiny greasy dots on the monitor today and any attempt to clean it is just creating a big smudge.

What's the best way to clean this screen?

Anyone recommend me a high quality screen cleaner?

Is the AW2725DF still a good buy in 2026? I was weighing up this or the Asus XG27ACDNG. But the Asus went back up to £660 so that kinda rules that one out. The AW is still £515 which seems like a decent price.

Yeah, it's still a good choice. I'd probably be considering the tandem OLEDs as well if you're looking at that 240-360hz 1440p range.

AW is good though, big benefit is you get Dell's support and service which is really good in the UK (from my experience). The only downside I found to the AW model was the HDMI port was limited to 144hz (and you only get 1 port) and it was a bit more painful on my eyes compared to other 1440p QD OLEDs - but I think that was due to it being a bit more over saturated out the box.

Yeah the Dell support does seem pretty top notch!

What have you and others been using? 1000 or true black?

Even after update still true black?

Originally I was using peak 1000 but then saw some comparisons between true black 400 and peak 1000 so switched to true black 400 and having now seen Vincent's testing on these monitors, it has cemented me in the true black 400 mode.

Peak 1000 is great but only for games where it's mostly dark i.e. resident evil, cronos kind of games.

Haven't tried the new mode yet but it will probably work similar to MSI etc. where it somewhat solves the abl issue, however, the eotf will still be wildly inaccurate (basically the accuracy and brightness for mid tones) and have clipping.

@Baddass
Will you be testing this mode and updating your original article with new comparisons on this?
