**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

My son has got one, it's a great bit of kit, far better than my Magic 5 Pro.

He only got the Pad X9a with his, he ordered directly from Honor as he didn't want a contract, the X9a isn't bad at all, but I'd have taken the Magic pad off his hands, shame it isn't the same deal.
The Magic Pad 3 only tends to be via the networks/Curry’s whether you buy outright or on contract however, they are charging more for the device than directly with Honor.

His was £810 all in from Honor, and as he didn't really need the tablet, there didn't seem to be any point in paying any more.

I got this a few weeks ago.

I've got to say it's a massive step up in usability compared to the S24 i had prior.
The exynos is garbage compared to the snapdragon (but i guess this was always going to be a given)
the poco also has 12gb ram, 256gb storage and a massive battery that can last 1.5-2 days without charging

though the camera on the poco isn't as good as the s24, but that's not a big issue for me

i've also disabled most things so i don't have the adds/notification vomit that some complain about with poco phones

the closest samsung competitor is the s25 plus, and one definitely won't find the s25 plus at this kind of price lol

Is anyone looking to buy the Xiaomi 17 Ultra? I've been pointed the one direction of some photo samples on Twitter, and they look very good, still undecided about my next phone.
I sold MY Xiaomi 15 Ultra in anticipation for the 17U. But from what I've seen I'm not a fan of it.

My mind is now set on either the Oppo or Vivo Ultras.

Why aren't you a fan? The camera samples look great so far, and that's my main priority.

The camera I'm okay with. I'm not a real fan of the design and HYPER OS 2 was nicer looking than the new version 3.

And the fact that 3rd party launchers don't work with it with gesture nav. And that they're fitting a smaller battery vs the China version.

Fair enough, some good points if you're already a Xiaomi user and you're used to the current setup, but as I haven't had a Xiaomi phone for over 3yrs, I'm sure I won't notice.

I don't use gestures, and the battery is still more than enough, but I wish they'd just release the same version for everyone!

Good review on the Leica version just gone up - https://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_17_ultra_leica_edition-review-2922.php

I'd be getting the normal version if I get one though, I work in a dusty environment, and I don't think the zoom ring would last long.

is there a catch with these Xiaomi phones, they seem to offer so much for a fraction of the price
i'm in the market for a midrange phone
seen this poco M8 5g a lot of phone for £200
is this Hyper OS any good?

i've always had Samsung Galaxys and was considering getting another but am intrigued by the chinese phones.

Ads apparently. Though I've not actually seen any on my Poco personally.

As someone who has just switched from an s24 to the Poco f8 pro, I have no regrets.
The Poco is just an objectively better phone all round, and cheaper to boot.
In fact, i was quids in after selling my s24

Mostly just ads in their own bundled apps like music player, photo viewer etc.
You can turn most of them off in the individual apps as well as a global setting, and/or bypass most by using standard Google photo apps etc

Its just a different skin for android

aaaah that makes a lot of sense now...was wondering why loads of complaints about ads with the poco when i see none.
i've uninstalled/disabled all the poco bundled apps and dowloaded/use the stock google ones

Wonder if Honor is loosing money or breaking even with the giveaways? Seems great to me getting a MagicPad3, wireless charger and a smart watch bundled in.

Over the last six months, my Poco F3 has shown repeated signs of instability, so I'm fairly sure that now is a good time to start checking out new models.

I've never had an iPhone/Pixel/S25 before, so unless the newer Poco or equivalent phones have better software/OS support,
I may try one of the premium makes/models for a change.

so unless the newer Poco or equivalent phones have better software/OS support,
xiaomi has said that the latest poco phones will have 4 android updates and 6 years of support, which is also a major factor why i jumped from samsung to the poco recently

Code:
Model name POCO F8 Pro
Release date November 2025
Support Active until November 2031
Current OS HyperOS 3, Android 16

I've ordered the Honor 8 Pro last night direct from Honor. Due to be delivered today.

£900 with a load of freebies included, probably sell the tablet as I don't have a use for it really.

So it has arrived and spent all night getting it set up. Its very snappy.

Only thing that annoys me about the default Android launchers on a lot of these devices is that you can't hide any apps. There are a lot of apps that I'll never use, like SIM Tools, that I can't delete, nor disable, or even just hide.

Camera seems good, battery is excellent and the screen is very very bright. Even the signal seems to be strong than my Nord 4 for some reason. Will give it a proper run out over the next couple of weeks but I'm happy with the move from my Nord 4 so far.
