Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month

Was it Vent or Teamspeak where you type "soisoisoi" into the chat to voice feature and it makes helicopter sounds?
Vent definitely but maybe also TS. My experience on vent was that Microsoft Sam voice was doing the speaking so if TS had TTS then probably the same.

You know your stuff and have your kids best interests at heart.. That's excellent. What about the sons and daughters of sparkies, bricklayers or hairdressers who have very limited technical knowledge and still use a pen and paper for their diaries? Should their kids face a world of unchecked social media because of their parents inability? As I said, this is the wrong forum to debate such things on as it's largely affluent, technologically astute individuals who are heavily biased.

This. People aren't responsible which is why we have rules.
* We have speed limits because adults cannot be relied upon to drive safe speeds
* We have laws to enforce using a seatbelt because people cannot be relied upon to take safety seriously
* we have laws against drink driving because some adults are not responsible enough not to get behind the wheel when intoxicated.
* we have laws about children sitting in the front seat because adults cannot always make responsible decisions.

Asking adults to always make the best decisions for their children is never going to work, especially when there is still a certain technical level required to enforce.

Having laws and regulations to help protect people, especially children who we accept cannot be responsible for their safety due to maturity, is not dome conspiracy theory by the elite to track innocent.

I agree there are conners of data security, but somehow the people that push this as a reason not to have age verification never actually focus their concerns on having better, centralized data security and privacy laws. Their argument is basically that because speed cameras and fines record private information, we should have no speed limits and drink driving should be legal.

If full blown adults are not responsbible for their own actions. Then i question whether they are capable of raising a kid in this world?

There is actually a call in on radio2 right now on this very subject...as some guys son has been banned from helping out in his food truck... his argument, his child is trained and supervised by him at all times, and has even won some cooking competitions so is well capable of operating a grill or slicing tomatoes. Cooking is litteraly his childs passion.

What the caller didn't understand though we have to legislate for the lowest common denominator... you could say the same for speed limits, some people are just clueless and need rules or it would be chaos.

We have some of the lowest common denominators making these laws and running the place right now.

Nope, they’ll all go back.

There is way too much past evidence to support this.
No chance. We ain't relied on discord. If discord disappeared there's alternatives. It's not as if discord is say attached to steam and without it u can't access or play any of your games in your steam library...

Infact many games have there own voip etc

Ask yourself my everyone now uses discord and not team speak, mumble, ventrilo and any of the others I’ve forgotten. The answer is because it’s better and specifically independent of games. Funnily enough people also want to speak to each other outside of games as well.

It will be no different to the Reddit protests, everyone will come crawling

The main thing for us as a gaming community is that we can use it for everything. If we're doing crossplay on PC / consoles, it works. If we're having a night of cards against humanity, it works. If we need to announce a night of D&D, it works. It's brilliant and nothing else has come close.

Maybe the others have evolved since I last used them, the last time I used Ventrilo or Teamspeak was when I was raiding in WotLK.

Is it though? I can't stand the interface/layout UX whatever you wanna call it, discord really irritates me, I have an account, but I don't use it unless I have to. I hate it.

Discord is kind of like Lanoguard - not particularly the best option but had a lot of marketing pushed behind it to drown out those who don't praise it and/or talk about other options.
