EV general discussion

rear seating stll looks compromised .

Today was outdoors when a r5 ev slowed down to pass myself on foot and neighbour on a horse - it didn't seem scared by the noise , but wonder if that was considered in the design.

end of the day it is on the training of the horse. if it is skittish around any EV what would it be like with some barryboy in his chavalier?
I would suggest anyone seriously casting doubt on an EV because of how loud it is around horses is going out of their way to find negatives.

OTOH our i3 (the original one) is almost silent... and I do actually think there is a good argument against this which is probably why pretty much all new EVs make some sound or another at low speeds

(that said my most "interesting" encounter with someone who blindly walking into my car whilst eating a burger in McDonald's carpark I was in my ipace which isn't silent when it's moving .
he moaned at me blaming me because "a big car like that should sound like a proper car".

haters gonna hate I guess

They looked at an i4 and went “hold my beer”
Goes to prove just how much some people think things look totally great/awful.
Far better looking than the i3, however at 4.9m it is a big car, shame it has a small boot opening though.
4.9m is long for a C-Class but way more rear leg room, more like an E.

Me and grok are trying to find some way of working out if EDF is the better deal once octopus bring the 6 hours in but I think it's basically impossible to figure out.

Pain considering the exit charge on EDF if it ends up making us worse off.

the rear light cluster looks like Lancer emblem or a radiation warning

somewhat, point was, that that aspect of the sound design had never crossed my mind - higher frequencies they employ could be more painful to horses, also for older people less audible ;
CLA seems to have a v6+ acceleration growl, on break review heard last week.

the I3 is no looker imo however that front of the Merc is horrendous.
It is no worse, in fact far better, than many other ev's of choice in this thread, some are no more than boxes on wheels. At least it has some individuality over them.
You only have to look at the Hyundai's offerings to realise how boring car design has become. Almost as if they come from the same mold.

What high frequencies. It’s a outside speaker for pedestrians to hear the car in a car park

The ‘sporty noises’ are played on the speaker inside

It's almost as if car manufacturers are trying to make them aerodynamic:eek::D

But yeah that does make them look like a jelly mold design

I don't think Hyundai should be picked out for this lol. The Ioniq 5 and 6 are pretty different looking, bit marmite but definitely different to other brands in the market.

One of those designs which puzzle me as with a few fairly small tweaks it would have been alright, instead it has too many bits which look like they hadn't quite planned out they went together - it always boggles my mind with stuff like that no one took a step back during the design phase and went "well actually" and fixed the glaring, and completely fixable, bits of the design which don't work (OK that is somewhat subjective but still).

The 5 is pretty inoffensive, OK some of the angles are a little odd but overall it is competent if a bit boring / some might consider it dated looking now but personally I don't mind it. The 6 though while again fairly inoffensive I don't think they quite nailed what they were going for, though the N fixes most of that, and definitely a different take to the 5 though it has some "DNA" overlap.

The 6 is one I'd pick out as pig ugly, however I was only being illustrative about all the EV clones that are around.
Lets face it the majority are boring and uninteresting, more or less from the same design sheet.

Well, the cheap night rates for Octopus IOG didn't last too long with all that's going on in the world. Just got the email saying mines going up from 5.2p to 6.9p, the more frustrating thing is why that also requires them to increase the standing charge from 61.74p a day to 63.44p a day.
