Yup, but if they report your response you run the risk of a suspension. And Sony perceive almost anything as harassment. It's really not worth the risk communicating with anyone you don't know. If your account gets banned then you lose everything.
No no I 100% agree, I never reply with anything that would get me banned.

My usual reply is always the 'thanks mate, just a quick game after work before putting the kids to bed' which usually makes anyone even more annoyed.

This shouldn't be allowed.

It should be how Steam does it. It takes a lot to get bonked, but if you do a charge back for example, your account is not banned (it used to be), but instead you are just put in restricted mode. You still have access to everything you bought, you just can't buy anything else on the account until you sort it out.

Should be the same deal everywhere, shouldn't be allowed to lock you out of stuff you have purchased, don't care what the T&Cs say. Government should really lean on Sony, but that would actually be something beneficial, so unlikely. Not sure who leaned on Steam or if Valve just did it themselves.

I agree. Sony's T&C's are very strict and don't allow the consumer to appeal any suspension. It's possible to earn a suspension for doing something as trivial as typing a laughing emoji at someone who's getting angry at you for beating them in a multiplayer competitive game ( if the player decides to take offense and reports it ). A few months ago someone I knew got an account warning for telling someone to stop being an idiot in chat on GT7 - the other person was cussing like a drunken sailor at everyone in the lobby but received no warning or suspension. Part of the problem is the reporting system is largely automated and doesn't look at the full conversation for proper context. And if you get caught out once Sony then screens every message you've ever made, even to friends, and anything that it considers offensive counts as another strike against your account.
Bottomline : never use PSN's messaging or voice chat.

Anyone bought the quietly released in late January '26 Speedball for their PS5?

Wondering how it plays for 1v1?

Does it support co-op 2 player online?

Currently on offer on PlayStation store for £14.99, equalling lowest pc price to date.

Didn't even know this was a thing. Used to enjoy it on the Megadrive back in the day.

My only other recommendation is to go into settings and disable all comms / messages from people you don't know.
Did this from the time it was ever available. Actually did it for every sort of comms.

I don't want to be communicating with anybody gaming in my living room, I do it to escape people

Added bonus means I lose nothing by not uploading any extra verification data to be lost in the ether at some point via random third party companies.

My point was primarily about access to this level of detail. Surely, a telecoms company would have no right to share account and contract information, whether fixed-term, monthly, PAYG, or recurring, with a third party such as Sony. Doing so would likely constitute a breach of GDPR.

I agree, it does rather beg the validity of using that method for age verification. Presumably this method must use other criteria, whatever that may be.
What happens if you don't verify?

What happens if you don't verify?

You can't do "adult" activities such as "send a message".

"You may not be able to use:

Communication features on PlayStation (console, PS App and web)
Voice chat
Text chat / messaging
Joining parties or group sessions
Connected or third-party communication experiences
Discord voice chat
Broadcasting and sharing features
Broadcasting gameplay to YouTube or Twitch
"

Sony are not any more specific than that. If it follows Xbox, it will be all public messaging disabled, which includes stuff like Overwatch's communication wheel and spotting and stuff like proximity chat in Arc Raiders. At least on Xbox, you keep messaging between friends and can join a friends party.

It's a joke, none of that is adult, just overreach.

Makes no sense, defenders of the OSA were so keen to say "well in real life you need id for X or Y, so internet should be the same". I don't need ID or to verify my age to have a public conversation, so why do I need it online? I do hope Labour keeps going though, the more they overreach, the less effective the "porn shield" will be, won't be able to deflect any criticism behind it forever.

Thank you. I haven't seen any messages but my son has.

Annoying but it seems if you don't connect your playstation for 30 days you just have to revalidate the license.

It's not you lose the games you've purchased.

E: Still, always preferred to buy discs anyway. Wonder if this applies to DLC which I do often buy digitally (not that 30 days go by when my PS5 isn't on TBH).

For most people it will be an absolute nothing burger, but I can see how it could be a problem for a minority of people (those who work on oil rigs etc, holiday with no internet connection etc.)

Yeah for sure, the longest period of time my internet hasnt worked for is 1 day in the last 15 years, so I'll not have an issue at all

There is a minority that may be affected though, such as people in very remote locations - like military members working overseas etc
