It's too hot :(

this is killing me, room is already 29.9c I sooo wish I could install proper AC but dad won't allow it because "I don't want holes in the walls" stupidest reason ever imo but it's his house for the time being. portable AC going on and have to endure complaints about the electricity
My LL has already agreed with me, usual condition I pay for it to be refilled when I am gone.

If my room hits 30, that's the point I start to struggle to work. I think i associate hot weather with happy times so I don't mind it. After work can drive to beach and get in the sea. Or go for a wild swim etc.

Same way I get really down in the wet, cold windy winters. Can be week after week of that.

Heard El nino might make our winter dry and cold this year... Climate change.. So good! (jokes! :D.)
29.1 right now, and it bottomed out at 27.3 last night. East midlands with west facing room.

Similar here but worse - the insulation in this house means it takes longer to heat up but once it does it holds the heat unless there is a good through breeze.

I actually slept last night, even though the room stayed at 25c. Think I've become acclimatised already. Up at 5am and the doors and windows wide open, and it's glorious. I complain about the heat, but really, I ******* love a proper summer.

I slept for 7 hours and woke up to find I'd pulled the duvet over myself at some point! so woke up a touch warm.

Wish I wasn't at work today. It's another beach day! 25C walking dog right now!

House temps now.

Finally caved in and got out the portable AC yesterday. Got the room down to 25C before turning it off for bed. Temps shot back up to 30c within minutes

The problem is that if you let the room get hot, it takes a lot more energy and time to remove the heat because now everything is saturated. Need to make sure all blinds/curtains/windows are closed (if possible) to prevent the room from heating up and then also have the AC on for longer even if you just set it to 23/24C and let it maintain temp then drop it lower a couple hours before bed.

With the portable units, it can also help to have a fan running to move the air around because they don't have optimal positioning and output compared to a wall unit.

Doesn't sound that impressive if it only got the room down to 25C?
It's a portable unit it's doing what it can. I'd gladly take 25c over 32c.

I have those UV reflecting film on my windows as well as a blackout blind. It doesn't seem to be helping much.

It's an unfortunate consequence of also being insulated for winter, so it holds the heat, but 25C is reasonable for a portable unit especially since the exhaust doesn't fully get rid of the heat.

A fan definitely helps, even just in front of the unit. Because hot air rises, you want the air to move around and get to the back/intake of the unit and the unit itself generally doesn't have a massively strong fan.

I have white shutters. I find that angling the shutters such that the sun can't get into the room, while leaving a bit of airflow, with the windows behind them open, keeps the house from getting too hot. Letting the sun shine in is a cardinal sin.
And then maximum airflow as soon as the outside temp is lower than the inside temp. Minimal airflow when outside is hotter than inside, except behind the shutters which allows hot air generated by the sun heating the surface of the shutters to escape.

This isnt summer its a BBQ, sun without intense heat is fine.
These sort of temperature are also confirmed to be unhealthy which is also why we get heat warnings.

Bring on the heat! Best bit about the heat is you can go to the beach and be on/in the water all the way into sunset and not be cold!
