DLSS 5 preview

And there are still not enough examples to warrant the fps hit imo. If i am playing a first person game I want to be into 150+fps territory before I even consider these fancy features. Don’t even get me started on path tracing. Granted, I grew up primarily playing first person shooters where fps is king.

You should see some of the comments on socials on the irony regarding fps, you have pc gamers generally lol'ing at sub 60fps in games - then post how they chub over GTA6 running at 30fps...

I only play first person games at high fps, but will suck it up and play GTA 6 on PS5 Pro. That’s my only exception. Third person should help…. right?

Well… that is my current thinking. There is a non-zero chance you see my ps5 on the MM for sale on the 20th Nov, lol.

*the game* is more important than arbitrary goals for technical performance.

Sure you see people saying they wont' play a game unless/until X gets this feature added or they can run it at X fps. And then you look at the game and see that 100,000 people are currently playing, that's opinion in action there.

I've been testing this afternoon. Once you get the hang of tuning it, you can get absolutely stunning looking results. I managed to get Black Flag Resynced DLSS5 working alongside my RenoDX HDR tweaks, and my jaw was a bit slack in parts - Not been this impressed by something 'new' since I got my first OLED HDR screen.

I've been using Reshade, RenoDX, SpecialK and modding for years so am well versed in the less is more philosophy of tuning visuals. Most people crank everything to 11 and wonder why it looks bad.

Anyway, it pains me to say it as a non-fan of AI in general terms, but this is the ******* future boys. If they can reduce the performance hit enough, DLSS5/ neural rendering is going to be huge whether you want it to be or not.

Also, side bar but why the **** is it called DLSS 5!? It has nothing to do with Super Sampling. It should be called DLNR (Deep Learning Neural Rendering)

Wait a second... Is this the "I love DLSS 5" thread?

Because remember the "controversy" when this was first revealed.

Now everyone loves it?

Like I said on page 2 of this thread, People like complaining as it gives their lives meaning.

I know several people on this forum who have made complaining part of their self identity :D

Yup, prepare for the usual reversal of frothing doomer 'opinion' once people get over the initial reveal. I like a good moan when it's warranted, but the same thing happened with DLSS (from v2) and frame gen now to a degree.

From my own first testing this first iteration of neural rendering is purely operating on the lighting, in a very effective and (crucially) tweakable way.

Those first Resident Evil 9 Grace image reactions were just silly. It does not change anything to do with actual modelling, geometry, textures or anything else. To put it in really simple terms, on first impression my take is - it's like the best ambient occlusion mod ever, in real time on acid, plus a highlights and global illumination booster/ balancer.

To be fair, Nvidia showed it off in the worst way possible. It looked god AWFUL in most of the games they used. They have very clearly overhauled DLSS 5. Someone could hate what was showed off earlier this year, yet think some of the recent before/after comparisons are impressive.

During the initial reveal I witnessed fully grown men having full on psychotic breakdowns... over a bloody graphical option.

There’s a breed of people who’s main pastime is watching ragebaiter YouTube videos, same people every time repeating all the same lines.

Neural rendering is quite obviously the future of realtime graphics.

Doesn't matter much anyway. Only your opinion matters. Never let what others say impact how you feel.

I liked it day 1. Though it clearly had issues and still does. But like DLSS 1 was **** and it has come a long way, so will this.

People went into meltdown about it, but way I see it is, if you don't like it, don't use it. I would much rather have it on than of in a title like Starfield for example.

Also I feel it would give replay value for games. Like I can play a game with it off and then on again.
