DLSS 5 preview

This was said when RT sprung up.
And there are still not enough examples to warrant the fps hit imo. If i am playing a first person game I want to be into 150+fps territory before I even consider these fancy features. Don’t even get me started on path tracing. Granted, I grew up primarily playing first person shooters where fps is king.

Also, RT is how many decades old and just needed a bit more fancy hardware and denoisers to make it somewhat useable? And now we get this fancy AI filter that is actually not much younger tech than RT but again, we finally have much faster hardware to actually train and run it. Neither are actually new technologies, both are older than raster 3D graphics. :) But people who know no history seem to think it's some new stuff freshly invented. Anyway, RT is still niche and so will be neural rendering for many years to come. And when you combine both of them... FPS hit is even better. :)

Btw, it runs about similar on 4k series, also just as big FPS drop. As I said, those models are fp8 and not optimized for 5k series at all currently, just made compatible with 4k series as the lower denominator. It generally feels like all the fancy new hardware acceleration functionality in 5k series isn't used that much even by Nvidia itself and has near 0 presence in games. This is the fate awaiting 6K series too, I reckon - games being made for the lowest denominator, hence not much performance gain on new cards.

And it was fully accurate. You couldn't get good ray tracing experience on an RTX 2000 series card back then and you sure as hell can't now. Maybe in a few generations this thing will be viable too, should consumer GPUs survive that long and still cost less than a house.

As for the technology, in its current form it seems to clash quite badly with certain artstyles and especially games that aren't going for a realistic look in the first place, such as FF7 Rebirth. The attempt at adding ultra-realistic detail just doesn't work with the anime styling and proportions of the characters.

Resident Evil Requiem also seems to be another game it clashes horribly with, which isn't breaking news. It does make you wonder why they picked it as one of the games to show it off though.

I'm sure it won't look quite so bad once implemented into games properly by developers rather than just as a pre-release version modded in, but there's some major cherrypicking going on from some people already declaring it the future of rendering and how Nvidia have solved all the issues from the initial reveal.

Lol. That image of Cloud. Yeah, I would never play with it on in such a game.

The RE looks good enough to me though.

As mentioned, until.we get it done by devs, there are going to be some games where it looks good and other like FF7 where it looks stupid.

People talking about the performance hit… this is what the DLSS upscalers are for. Exactly the same using path tracing.

When you take a game that already looks hyper real and add dlss5 it takes the graphics to the next generation

It looked half decent injected into GTA V based on what I saw on YouTube. Wonder how it would fare in FH6.

Most examples are just a basic photo AI enhancement to me. Would not touch it for the perf hit.
