The AMD Driver Thread

It is the PSU....

I ran OCCT GPU stress test, passed no issues.... then i ran the power stress test, the moment both the GPU and CPU loaded up it crashed.

Its always the same, i can stress the GPU on its own for hours on end and its perfectly stable, or the CPU on its own, the moment i stress them both together it crashes

There's an offer on OCUK for a LianLi 1200w Platinum PSU for £140 that gets a good write up - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lian...inum-modular-power-supply/POW-LIA-06701.htmll -

I've just seen QSSR is out for the base PS5. Hopefully now Radeon can pivot back to some of the PC features they promised.

Edit. Probs FSR4 on 6xxx GPUs, it would fit with QSSR on PS5

I'm still hoping we see AMD's version of multi frame gen.

I'm happy with 2x with better timing. RR and luminance caching would be cool too... then one day I will play cyberpunk

Ray Regeneration would be nice to see in more games than 2 games and in games that I actually want to play.

What would be cool is if we could somehow convert Nvidia's RR to AMD's RR in the games that it's in.

@AMD_Vik Thanks for the candid response. I also agree with @Noxia i like talking to humans...

I do agree game developers themselves need to do better, i do think its increasingly used as a crux for lazy optimisation.

With that said to expand a little on what @Dicehunter said and going back to Star Citizen as an example here they created their own agnostic upscaling tech / Native AA tech as a better alternative to FSR, and it is visibly better, its is not as good as ML FSR.

So this is the thing, games these days use DLSS or FSR as the native resolution AA, With that even if we aren't using upscaling, if we are running at native resolution, IE using "Native AA" it still looks bad if its using FSR 3 or older.

I don't think they can make a native AA that's as good as FSR 4, in Star Citizens case they already made one that's better than FSR 3 but even they say beyond that we need AMD to make a Vulkan FSR 4 SDK.

I have seen an immense amount of people, Including game developers like HelloGames, Ask AMD for FSR4 for Vulkan, If AMD are even ignoring big game developers, Or so it would seem as AMD's communication skills are quite bad, Then it's not a good sign.

Understood. As i've mentioned, i'm sure it's on the way, and it's good to see actual pressure from ISVs to deliver it.

Personally, i don't really understand why it didn't launch to support both APIs (and then some), but that's not my wheelhouse :p

and to clarify, we know vulkan support has been an ongoing request for ages; we've always relayed that to the relevant people internally, but it's not up to us to communicate anything around that, like when it's coming etc.

my best advice would be to keep your eyes on GPU Open

Ah well, at least you've (hopefully) figured it out.
You said you've got a new PSU arriving soon didn't you? Hope that fixes it.

I've been struggling with an issue with my Ryzen 5500 + B550 motherboard + 7900XT where the USB devices intermittently disconnect for a second (works fine with a 4060Ti). So annoying trying to troubleshoot intermittent issues. I've decided it's something about the power draw or something of the 7900XT that messes up the IO controller, which is tricky to fix.

New PSU is on the way yes, MSI MAG A850GL.

Honestly good luck fixing your issue, IO stuff is even more of a nightmare to pin down.

Just be aware you'll only have 2x 8-pins available for your GPU with that PSU, in case that impacts any future GPU decisions.

EDIT: TBH if £100 was your budget I'd have paid the £9.99 extra for the Gigabyte GAMING 850GM PG5 850W. Just that it has a 135mm vs 120mm fan, and has NLO and SIP protection. T-Guard on the 12V-2x6. The extra CPU/PCI-e cable. 100% Japanese capacitors. Annnnnd the cables look nicer! :)

@AMD_Vik In the most recent 26.9.2 driver "Fluid Motion Frames" gets disabled if you have a games Frame Gen implementation enabled, Any chance you could nudge the right people to reverse this decision as having both a games Frame Gen and driver level Frame Gen genuinely made some games feel smoother... unless of course AMD may be getting ready for a driver level Multi Frame Gen ?

I didn't even know that was a thing. :D

I just watched a Hardware Unboxed video about shader compilation, and there's a bit where they show a 9070 XT performing better than a 5090 due to a driver feature that AMD added recently. I thought I'd mention it here because if you read "opinions" around the internet, you'd get the impression that AMD is always catching up, not doing new things themselves. Yet AMD *does* do things that have a real, sometimes even massive effect on the player experience, they just don't have the same level of marketing applied to them. When your £800 product performs better than your competitor's £6000 product because your drivers are doing something better, you should be letting people know. Reviewers should be making sure to run benchmarks that reflect actual player experience, so this sort of thing is picked up.

Here's the relevant part of the video, where the 9070 XT with the shader compilation driver thing achieves 10x better 0.1% lows than the 5090, which is the difference between horrendous stuttering and perfectly good performance:

Anyone point me in the right direction to find out why I am now getting driver timeouts on every single start of windows..

Had steam big picture auto load and it would turn to a black screen, turned it off, and now I need to quickly enter task manager to acknowledge the timeout and use the c.
Latest from amd site, 29.2 I think it is..
9070xt
9700x
ASUS Creator x870e m/board.

Thanks

Only thing I can recommend is DDU and install 26.9.2 then see how you get on
