***The Official Guitar Thread***

Unexpected birthday cash appeared from the mother-in-law.. that should cover three sets of strings. Two sets of 7 string paradigms and a set of EXL 120-7 flatwounds for the acoustic once it's built. Strings for 6 string guitars.. 15-25.. strings for 7 string guitars 25-45+.. grumble :D

Classic fender sunburst tele and traditional pickup config - looks great.

Now the heatwaves are over.. and we're back to normal weather.. I can crack on with my archtop. I just have to remember where the hell I am. lots more to go.. and the back needs carving which I think is next.

that's what happens with anything - go full on mode then something happens and it all stops...go back to it and you're lost(ish)

another video! - cliffs of dover after some full on practice, work stuff etc in the way...then back on it - the intro is the killer
man boob included :p
Fender Sonic Squier - the cheapest and probably the comfiest! guitar I've had!

Can you guess the music we’ll hear by the guitars..

EDIT: Few surprises on the guitars too -- there was a Gretsch and a Prince symbol guitar too etc.

Well they played cliffs of dover and an Alvin Lee country tune that looked pretty difficult (no ideal about country).

That was a great watch. Didn't expect to watch it all the way through but it just kept getting better. And it sounded fantastic at the end.

I am another one who has not touched ones guitar in 10 or so years.
When Covid 19 hit, and people were furloughed I worked all through the lock dowm. So I never got ot catch up on past hobbies, or clear the garage, loft, under stairs cupboard etc,...I know I can also hear the violins,... LOL

I have a westtone Thunder Active and I love it. many years agao I changed the pick ups for ones simular to whats on a Gibson SG.
At the back of my understairs cupboard in a 100 watt value amp. The sound is so smooth and I even have a over drive footswitch. Also I a small selection of Boss pedals I purchased in in 90's

So on the build... starting to get back into where I was, what needs doing etc after taking a break due to the three heatwaves.

Todo as an overall picture:
A1. front bracing (includes tuning the braces)
A2. front deviation load test to confirm the neck angle
B1. rear maple plate carve/tune
B2. rear plate bracing (again include secondary tuning)
C. Fretboard Neck and body struct/brace, headstock
D. Front plate fit - Neck/struct fit
E. Side sound hole
F. Back fit.
G. Finish, shellac etc.
H. Tail trap and bridge
I. Electrics and pickup - remembering this pretty much a closed box without f-holes but a side hole.

a lot todo. However it's really a case of putting a small amount each week, possibly a day off from the job hunt on a thursday or Friday, and pushing the project forward. I have the majority of the bits - I've deliberately not bought the shellac as that has a shelf life, and with the birthday I have a few funds in reserve for any problems - possibly even a floating pickup which I'd put off until funds allowed.

Anyways.. I'll give an periodic update, so I'll not overload the thread..

You have a workshop with a bench where you can leave this and just keep going back to it.

I have garage but it's not a place I want to leave the wood for extended periods (it has pond filters in so humidity varies). However I can leave the rest setup etc or overnight..
