A better Wifi Extender?

For what you are paying, you could have 1Gb and Netflix.

Extenders are a technically horrible solution, and based on your description of the signal in the bathroom that appears to be mere feet away, something seems off here. What are your walls made of? Is it something incredibly dense like stone or have you got a modern build with something like foil coated boards that will block signal? They are particularly popular in bathrooms where a foil/foam/plastic laminate board can be used to ensure a waterproof membrane between plaster and any cladding to remove the cold 'bridge', I recently re-did a bathroom with such a product and it's great, but mobile/wifi signal is now significantly reduced.

Oh, and for those proclaiming wifi has improved with bigger numbers, 2.4Ghz is still vastly superior for penetration, followed by 5Ghz and it gets *worse* as you go up the spectrum, not better. It can be fast, or it can go through walls, but not both, and certainly not within our power limits.

1gb and Netflix for about £24? That would be amazing. Who's that with? I've been with Virgin Media for many years and every 18 months I threaten to leave unless they reduce my bills to £24 pm otherwise they'd charge £40+ for very basic internet.

Mine's an old edwardian house but there's a clear path straight down the hall and into the kitchen from the front room where the router is situated. My extender is plugged in the hall, about halfway between the front room to the extender's left and kitchen to the extender's right and there's really no walls to speak of that would get in the way.

I mean there's a hollow partition bathroom wall right next to the extender, but there's only about 3 or 4 feet from the extender to the bathroom door and even with the bathroom door open it still struggles sometimes. So I can't really see how a signal would get blocked from walls.

My feeling is that this RE200 extender is weak on signal distance. I do swap between 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz on my phone and sometimes get better signal on one or the other. My wifi is working well today in the bathroom and kitchen since rebooting the Superhub 3 router and the extender but it'll let me down again at some point. Hopefully the new extender I just bought will be better.

If it was working before , it could be interference on the wireless channel from the superhub, such as neighbours WiFi or other appliances

Superhub by default is set to auto pick the best wireless channel on restart but I don't think it gets it right

What you can do is go into the superhub, you'll have sticker underneath what IP to type and login

Go into the wireless settings for 2.4ghz choose between channels 1 , 6 or 12 whichever is least used

You can check which WiFi channels are being used around you by using this app not sure for iPhone this is for Android

RE705x been great for me although I got it set using easy mesh because already have tp link router so it's the same WiFi connection doesn't need to reconnect and was cheaper solution

I have router front of the house with extender in the middle so now get WiFi to the other end of the house and garden including bathroom

That's great, I'll look into that. It certainly is possible to be interference because I've always wondered why it's so inconsistent and that could explain why.

Virgin offer Gig1 and Netflix for anything from about £22 upwards via retentions, they also offer the new customer price of £23.99 via new customer offers, it's been mentioned on here previously and I believe was a MSE offer for a while. Wifi wise, it tends to travel in straight lines, so if you draw a line from the device to where you are, that's what its travelling through. Depending on the angle, a 'thin' wall can actually be a few feet thick potentially, also things like screens which are RF shielded (your TV) pose a problem, so when people say 'it's in the lounge' I tend to take the worst case scenario as it's in the corner (horrible idea) behind the TV (even worse).

I called VM and there's two problems. One is that my current contract doesn't finish until October 2027 and the other is that he said it would cost me £67 for Gig1 & Netflix and that there's no retentions offer. Only new customers get that which is extremely unfair imo they they get all that for less than a loyal customer (me) gets for just 150mbps and no streaming tv package. Come next year though I'll threaten to leave again unless they give me a good deal with Netflix.

sorry to hijack the thread well derail it. but i have a talktalk sagemcom 5359 fast modem router. would this modem only and then install a mesh (possible deco7 looking at) work. problem again is coverage i added tp link units and they seemed to work but keep dropping out. main router is in bedroom and i have a extender in hallway and in detached garage.
main reason is my solar batteries keep dropping out in garage and my inteligent meter is in my front porch.
i was tring to get sagemcom extenders but no info from talktalk...
was previously ok with eero and eero units but they went back when i opted for fibre900.
any ideas please?

from what i can see the 5359 would change to modem only but unsure if the deco or other would work?
