The hate on version 1 was justified, they overdid it and only said "devs have control over how intense it is" etc - Showcasing the worst case example in a first party demo is not the way to show off new tech, though those of us who understand how all this works did state it would be more usable down the line and now it not only looks better but runs better too.

Oh ah, I've got the nice notification that logic has been called to the scene, fine, let it be!

If you just skim the surface of interwebs drama, sure, it might look like "zomg people rage about anything these days" - and it often is true. But in this case you might have missed the fact of how nicely Mr NVIDIA rolled up pricing of anything gaming-related and then pretty much ditched gaming all together. And yes, this isn't a "whuuut?" - read their latest financial report, there's ZERO RTX gaming GPUs mentioned anywhere, not even in Edge Computing anymore. That place now belongs to Spark and as far as shareholders of NVIDIA are concerned, RTX gaming GPU department is done, dead, vanished, doesn't exist. I would say, do not expect new gaming GPUs from NVIDIA this decade, if ever again. But that aside - with all that in mind, general population does NOT want to hear about AI, see AI in games, see FPS cut by half for uncanny look and not be able to afford any GPUs that can actually run this stuff. It's called being "tone-deaf" and the backlash is perfectly understandable with that in mind, IMHO. It will only get worse, I suspect and might as well end up like things went in France recently. On the other hand the actual FG, upscaling, RR etc. tech - that improves quality and performance and has hardly any actual AI in it (more of cleaver engineering, marketing aside) and people don't mind that at all. It's ok to simply not like something but a lot of people went way way over the top with the outrage, Several Nvidia engineers closed their twitter accounts due to being threatened with murder, Digital Foundry members got threats of murder because some of them said "I kinda like it"... what DLSS5 highlighted for me was that a lot of people need very lengthy stays at psychiatric hospitals, There are a lot of mentally sick people out there.
Right, what did I just say about being "tone-deaf"?Probably because those moaners were gooners who hated that characters looked older not younger.

FFS, you deserve a ban for that![]()

v1 offered a nice benefit in some games but the new version seems far more sensible/viable, no longer seeing reflections appearing where they shouldn't, e.g.
old

new

Nope that reflection isn't cast there normally at all (and won't be there with path tracing either). Old DLSS5 was seeing that exit sign light in the background and assuming light from it should be there when it shouldn't, so essentially hallucinating yeah (or misinterpreting the scene). Is there a reflection without DLSS5?
It could be that v1 hallucinated it.
I guess people are just not allowed to voice criticism when they think something isn’t up to scratch.I havent visited this thread for a while. I find it interesting that most of the recent comments are generally positive about DLSS5, yet earlier in the thread there was a lot of hate. And still hateful comments even when others were pointing out the tech would get better. Guess what haters, it did get better didnt it and its still very early days. Your silence speaks volumes![]()
who said people arent allowed to post criticism? are you saying i shouldnt criticise the critics?I guess people are just not allowed to voice criticism when they think something isn’t up to scratch.
The reality is I think the majority of people are just not bothered till it becomes a mainstream tech which is still a gen or two away.
I think some of the early stuff looked pretty terrible tbh and warranted criticism, sure it’s improved but the performance hit is still heavy and official support is only in 3 or so games.who said people arent allowed to post criticism? are you saying i shouldnt criticise the critics?![]()
i was merely saying those comments aged like milk
many were influenced by a hatred of AI, of which i wouldnt be surprised that those absolutely hateful comments AI gets, will also age badly.
Its gonna be interesting looking back in a few years time.
AI is just a technology, it never ruined anything, manufacturers not being able to meet demands and using any excuse to raise prices ruined the pc gaming market. I dont think the gaming market is ruined anyway, a 9070XT will play just about anything and is affordable, a 5070Ti will do dlss etc. Gaming in general has contracted due to a huge correction after the surge in gaming during covid, and studios pumping put expensive yet poor, unimaginative games, that didnt sell well.I think some of the early stuff looked pretty terrible tbh and warranted criticism, sure it’s improved but the performance hit is still heavy and official support is only in 3 or so games.
AI has already pretty much ruined the consumer pc gaming market so it’s no surprise many gamers don’t like it.
You do realise the cheapest 9070xt on OCUK is now £800?, ram up around 500% SSDs up 200-300%a 9070XT will play just about anything and is affordable,
