Before anyone starts, yes I do know how to clean my ears.

My mate showed me yesterday after he cleaned his ears the amount of wax that came out  I said I never have much wax when cleaning my ears and he said that he puts olive oil in his ears for a bit as it breaks up the wax. I thought this idea a bit stupid but then realised it would just be like water in your ears anyway.

I just google and found this on an ear health site

'Removing wax
Olive oil is very soothing and will soften the wax, enabling it to come out. Two drops into each ear, twice a day, is enough, and the cheapest oil will do the job just as well as expensive oils'

Anyone on here use olive oil to clean their ears? I might try it later on

Unless you suffer from excessive ear wax, just leave it alone. Wax is there to protect your ear tunnel from infection. Just clean the area with a warm face cloth.

Im a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to cleaning my ears, i reckon i must clean them twice a day, i hate the waxy feeling inside.

It wierd i know.

I also find it strangely satisfying when i clean my ears too.

wtf?, olive oil :p

Cotton bud is fine every once in a while, I remember this guy at school his mum would not let him clean his ears with a cotton bud :D too dangerous apparently

i find cutting my nails really satisfying, infact sometimes i go a bit scatty if i cant find a pair of scissors to cut them with

as for cleaning my ears i also use a cotton bud even though your not meant to, it gets the job done. i find soaking it in warm water before you shove it in also makes it less uncomfortable

In my opinion, you should put anything down your ear smaller than your elbow :p Olive oil was recommended to me when my ears needed syringing though.

We have to be careful as this is verging on medical but I have used olive oil before and it works really well. A couple of years ago I caught an ear infection whilst in Turkey (craphole of the world) and my ears started to produce copious volumes of black sticky wax, like road tar. I had major problems with excessive wax after that to the point where one ear became blocked and the other was getting close. I went to the quak and the nurse syringed them with what felt like a firehose at 200 psi!

Worked though.

Know what you mean. After wearing my headset, ears must be cleaned

Sticking things in your ears isn't considered a good idea (that includes cotton buds). Using Olive oil to soften the wax is a good idea if you have an excessive build up. If that doesn't help you should consult a doctor.

I had that done once, ( Ear syringed )

It hurt a lot so much infact that i shed a little tear :(

Olive oil is recommended by nurses, when I had my medical for my job, they advised me to use olive oil, hearing was fine but ears where blocked up a bit. But Instead of that I got some stuff from boots it was only a pound and comes with a dropper as well. Be surprised how much stuff a bit of oil shifts. even when a cotton bud comes out clean. Doesn't need it that often yet. once a month or so is more than enough.
