Right I dont wanna be that guy...but

It's a games console. To me that necessitates it having games I want to play. Its roster of games is nowhere near deep enough to appeal to a lot of gamers.
Yes you just said it, games YOU want to play, maybe not the same as the ones he wants to play?

How many games are on the PS3? How many are on the 360? I'd rather have more choice than less choice.

but as i said this wont be a problem after christmas....thats my point. i think a lot of people who have attacked the PS3 will come around later on. Again i want to stress im not attacking the 360 but stating only that surely everyone can see the PS3 is more?

I own both PS3 and 360, and in fact pretty much every major console ever released since 1989 ;) I agree to a point, but personally I haven't powered my PS3 up for 2 or 3 months now. It's a great system, I really like the front end and the capabilities and I think it 'feels' more 'professional' than the 360's interface. I don't think I could say it's ever blown me away though but that could be because I've had a PSP since release and so I'm pretty familiar with the whole XMB thing anyway.

But the 360 has games. Lots of very good ones - something the PS3 doesn't have, hence the reason mine's not had much use for a while.

Hmm, how is it more though? It's a Blu-ray player and ... ? I can't think of anything else to be honest, although I do like the more open approach to the system - ie. you can play music off memory sticks, transfer your savegames to memory sticks etc. However, being able to play MP3s when you can't play them whilst you're in a game is a little useless for a games console in my book :)

When the 360 and PS3 are on par in terms if their library of games only then can the comparison be made.

Until then the 360 is automatically the better games console.

You post with good intentions, but quotes like 'surely everyone can see the PS3 is more?' is just asking for it. You need to explain why you think that's so, instead of dodging and weaving around it - or the flames come thick and fast. ;)

Well by saying you think the ps3 is better than the 360 what type of response did you think you would get?. Obviously people were going to respond with comments of why they think you are wrong and why they think the 360 is better.

a library of games doesnt dictate how good a console is does it?? because the points i made initially were about the quality of the console....not the other way around, look at the gamecube and wii...both hailed as "highly successfull" yet catalogue of games not comparable to their respective competitors in each of their days

The difference between a debate and a flame-war is that one offers reasons and opinions, the other don't. This one is the latter.

The Gamecube and Wii remark is not the most logical example to follow, as the Gamecube was actually considered mediocre for its time, and not 'highly successful'. Before the 360 came out (considered the end of that 'generation') the Gamecube was the least selling home console of that era. The Wii is aimed at a different audience and demographic, and the sales figures seem to show that the Wii is now the most widely purchased console, with the PS3 being the least.

The GC was 'highly successfulll', are you sure?

Most people do judge consoles on the games available, makes sense to me.

The Playstation 2 is an amazing console (probably the best since the Super Nintendo/Super Mario World days) because of its massive and diverse software lineup. It's definitely sensible to judge a console by its software library.

the ps3 costs more than a 360 but to me the inclusion of free online (as far as i am aware) and the built wireless more than offset that cost. Also the HD films is a big bonus

simple reasons like this...high quality wifi, rechargable controlers, free online play and content. Look at the cost of the seperate components and you can see its a great price for what you get. I mean look at the price of a blu ray player! I also think that when you look at it overall you can kinda see microsoft have realised they are going to be trailer soon.

Reason being....i look at the this section of the forums and i see at least 3 threads a day regarding a dead/dying/disk killing 360. Also the fact that MS recognised they had built a poor quality machine....the extension of the warranty. And finally the Elite....a direct response to the PS3 and its expanding catalouge of games. HDMI & A decent size HD, two things the PS3 has as standard and that MS needed to try capture those looking to purhcase in the build up to christmas.

or am i wrong?

The PS3 may be better than the 360. But I'm looking to buy a games console, and I think the 360 is the better games console!

(will end up getting a PS3 eventually just for FFXIII :()

i like my 360 cos its £150/175 compared to £375/£400.

Yes the PS3 looks and feels like a serious bit of kit (have owned one before)

what i don't like is the XMB menu as it get very messy as your scrolling around once a lot of things get added, also don't like the whole speaking on the internet side with bluetooth support which seems very flakey when i used it and hardly anyone talked anywhy (unlike LIVE). Didn't think much of the browser either, although for free you cannot moan i suppose. Photo's was excellent though, media server for avi streaming wasn't great (but can only get better i suppose), hence i personally think 360 wins hands down on its media connect. Home seems like a gimmick.

When the PS3 can offer a console at £200/£250 i'm sure it will fly of the shelves and become No1 with ease, but by this time we will have xbox720 or whatever i reckon.

In a business sense, yes, it made a lot of money. For the general public, it wasn't anything to write home about.
