Wealth

Yes. Not that I'm unhappy now, but if I get what I have now + not having to worry about money, ever, then can't go far wrong imho :)

It completely depends on the person, for some it would make them incredibly happy, others not so much. As for me, i'm pretty loaded already but could do with more;)

You see famous people break down or kill themselves, turn to drugs etc all the time. Even CEOs who aren't famous. There has to be something about it.

not really - its just when it does happen it gets lots of press coverage.....

depression etc.. (though it can occur throughout society) is quite prevelant amongst low earners/people on benefits etc...

and yes some celebs and bankers etc.. probably do snort large quantities of the white stuff the areas of the country worst affected by drugs tend to be poor council estates

though money isn't everything having lots of it is very likely to make someones life a lot happier than not having very much of it.

Well the question isn't really pointless, as it's not asking if you'd be happy being given the money. It's asking if you think that when you die, you would be happy. That's accounting for the rest of your life, having been rich for a long period of time. Having no goals, having no aspirations, having smothered and spoilt your family. 50-60-70 odd years of this assuming you die of old age. There's a lot more to the question than the face value of 'would it be nice to be endlessly rich'.

and on the flip side - if you'd looked back at your life - realised that you'd worked in a menail job and wasted the best years of your life doing a pointelss task in some factory - your kids went to a naff inner city school and also have no future etc.. then you'd probably be even more unhappy

the answer is quite simple - its just it all depends on your current financial situation and personal needs/desires right now

Was just having a debate with people at work about this question, wondered what your answer would be:

If you were given an endless supply of money, do you think you would die a happier person?

If it was endless I would say yes

If you win X million it could have a negative effect in that people bugging you for money, needing to manage the money as it could be a big dividing issue if it was suddenly thrust into your life.

But limitless money would make you happier as pretty much any problem could be solved by money and no arguements would arise because of the money because it is always there.

Of course money would never be able to effect things which always happen in life such as death but an endless supply of money would be a great thing

Indeed. I just think a lot of people see wealth through rose tinted glasses. I know quite a few people who are millionares through my father and none of them seem any more happy than anyone else I know. Most of them have trust issues as a result of being sucsessful and are divorced or in a sham marriage. One of them springs to mind, he just travels around europe on his bike when he has the chance. It sounds glorious but it's basically just exaggerated escapism.

Yes I would die happier, I don't know how you couldn't to be honest?

I would jack my job in, see the world, design and build my own house, buy all the stuff I wanted, take care of my family, open a few businesses, how could I not gain hapiness from that?

Yes definitely.

I'm happy with my life at the moment but the ability to clear all our debts would be great and make things a lot easier for my wife and I.

Also we could holiday etc. where we liked without worrying about the financial implications and we'd be able to help out our families as well which would also make me happier.

I think I could, because I understand the problems with wealth and I could address them.

More than anything I'm playing devil's advocate.

Yes I would be a lot happier knowing I could provide for my wife and child whatever happens. Also I could quit work and spend quality time and travel and have a nice home recording studio....this would make me very happy.

I wouldn't have to work for the NHS, and I could do similar but pro bono work elsewhere, where is actually mattered. I would continue to work, probably not as hard, but yes, it would improve my quality of life, simply by removing my need to continue on the NHS treadmill. I would live longer, as my stress levels and blood pressure would retrun swifty to acceptable levels.

I doubt I'd change much else, maybe our house, and an extra holiday a year, kids wouldn't get spoiled.

A bipolar millionaire contemplating suicide may well be less happy than an Ethiopian farmer; but if they were to swap positions, I guarantee the millionaire would become a lot less happy, and the farmer would become a lot more happy.
