German Grand Prix 2011, Nürburgring Circuit - Race 10/19

His first race in a year *hast race for HRT was Silverstone 2010*, in a car he's not overly familiar with as he's only done 30ish laps before this weekend in, in small batches, on generally intermediate tyres.

He did alright. Plus with Trulli just whining constantly about the power steering, may as well take him out for a race before the updated system goes in.

He spun off a lot though...here's just a few:

Don't forget Klien completely blew away Senna last year (by a full second in qualifying) in the HRT after parachuting in, something that Chandhok couldn't do for half a season.

Good race once I watched it. Pub was useless no sound, so just finished watching it on iplayer.

I have to agree, I was expecting more from chandhok.

I think it's a little unfair to judge him on the one performance, he said himself he really hasn't had much running with the Pirellis, other drivers have also seemed to have taken a while to get used to them.

I'd like to see a few more races with him in the Lotus to see where he's at, but I'm not sure he's going to get that chance.

And?

Michael Schumacher threw his car into the scenery a few times over the weekend - and he's been in the car all year. Does that mean he's worse than Chandhok? ;)

Up to today, the longest stint that Chandhok had done was 10 laps. He's not overly happy with the race himself. He managed the distance though, so thats a huge learning experience for him.

As for Klein, an driver with a couple of years experience was faster than 2 rookies. Not entirely surprising.

Anyway, just watching the end of the race now 8went out for a meal* Didn't Alonso look knackered at the end?

Has any thing been said/punishments for all the little rule braking by the top 3?
Would be surprised if they didn't get fined, but no more than that.

Are you really trying to compare him to MSc? The difference is Michael is pushing to the limit, Karun cannot handle the Lotus at all.

Sticking his car in the wall in Australia on the outlap is nobody's fault but his.

So someone who doesn't know the car isn't allowed to make mistakes, but someone who does is allowed to make mistakes?

Ok.....

He owned up to that one. First lap on Pirelli's, first lap in the Lotus and first car on the track as well.

He did terrible. When other teams bring in their 3rd driver, he usually not 2 laps off his team mate.

They need to sort out Truli's steering issue and he'll be fine.

As someone mentioned, Klien was able to jump in the HRT and go well despite being out of F1 for donkey's years. I bet Anthony Davidson would have done a better job.

As nice a guy as Chandhok is, has he really done anything to prove he's a good driver? People seem to be getting very defensive about him, purely because they like him.

On a similar note, I was really wishing Massa would have "accidentally" tapped on the brakes whilst Vettel was all over the back of him. Not because I dislike Seb, but because it would have actually allowed the top three to catch him up, rather than only the 3 point drop he suffered in the end. :p

These threads should really be called **** Vettel Off Grand Prix 2011 because that's all people seem to do :o

all the time you have people queueing to suck him off its going to happen. Same when Lewis had a few bad races.

Vettel is a nice guy, and a fast man on a flying lap. But there is plenty of reason to question how much of that is down to the car and how much actual race craft he has. Questions that Hamilton and Alonso have both already overcome.

Totally agree, because he was a damn nice guy when he did the commentary work all of a sudden people forget how ordinary he is, same with davidson really.

Then again it got Rubens nearly 20 years in the sport so why not them ;)

If you put the top 3 today in Vettels shoes, behind Massa, all 3 of them would have passed him with ease IMO. Vettel can't mix it when hes not in a default win.

Because his main attribute is driving fast when in clean air, when he's following another car he has no plan B except for hoping his team can get the job done via a pit stop. I'm very keen to see how he performs when Ferrari and McLaren are on par with Red Bull on a more regular basis (which is hopefully very soon given the last 2 races).

Alonso, Hamilton & Webber put on a great racing spectacle today and you could see the respect they had for one another at the end of it. You'd think Alonso would be furious that Hamilton got one over on him but he seemed quite happy with the fact that Ferrari are now competitive and he is able to race the Red Bulls'.

Hard to tell, both tracks have been cold and silverstone was an odd one, with the rules.
We've seen it last season RBR struggled at one or two tracks then the next race be a second ahead. Exactly what Ferrari said, last year they did well here, next race they were a second behind.

Yes, the cars seem to be suited to very different conditions because of the way they use the tyres.

Still, makes it more interesting than Vettel running away with it - and at the very least, Webber seems to be back in it now (not that they would ever let him beat the wonder boy).
