German Grand Prix 2011, Nürburgring Circuit - Race 10/19

What on earth where RBR doing leaving Mark out so long when it was clear for the whole world to see that staying out was not working?

Well I think two things, RBR came out and he didn't come in, and had he come in, he was only on the same strategy as the other two. Before the pits he was 8 seconds behind Hamilton but what, 35-40 ahead of the two behind him, he had nothing to lose by staying out, at all, but on the off chance there was a little life left in his tyres, or the other guys were slow it was worth a shot. Had he pitted at the same time it wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference.

Button didn't say there was a problem with the car, and after his pit in clear air he was doing similar times to Hamilton, he just gets stuck behind everyone.

button did similar lap times right after his stop when the top 3 were all on older tyres. so fresh tires vs older and he was only matching.

he was just slow this weekend.

Meh, it was a few laps later and the softs didn't get massively slower, they were older tyres, but not completely done. Even Button said his pace was ok at that stage, I was surprised because Button is usually full of excuses, of course he also said he could probably have aimed for fourth so was half blaming the car for failing for him not coming 4th, which sounds more like him, there wasn't a chance in hell of that happening.

He gets stuck behind someone almost every single race, often someone fairly lame, and its the things like being so unagressive into the first corner that ended up with him stuck behind slower cars.

But I agree, yes he was just slow this weekend, he's just slow almost every weekend, just a bit slower than normal this week, or Hamilton just being a bit faster than normal with balls of steel and throwing himself around the track like a crazy person that did it.

F1 Forum is always great viewing.

Not a great race for Chandok unfortunately. It must be really hard with so little track time but I sure the team expected him to finish ahead of the Virgins and HRT at least.

Trulli may have been making up the numbers, but it's his two 13th place finishes that have kept Lotus ahead of Virgin in the WCC.

For Karun to finish 2 laps down on his teammate is lacklustre (it's not like he's been out of F1 *that* long, he drove for HRT last year).

Someone gave Brundle a jacket for Hamilton to wear.

Am I the only one that noticed it was a red bull jacket (hence his refusal)? ;)

If you put the top 3 today in Vettels shoes, behind Massa, all 3 of them would have passed him with ease IMO. Vettel can't mix it when hes not in a default win.

Completely agree. I disliked how they referred to him as one of the "greats" towards the start of the commentary, and his drive today proved exactly why he shouldn't be considered a great. When time trialling and managing his tyres he can be excellent, but he is useless when trying to overtake or when under a little biit of pressure.

His first race in a year *hast race for HRT was Silverstone 2010*, in a car he's not overly familiar with as he's only done 30ish laps before this weekend in, in small batches, on generally intermediate tyres.

He did alright. Plus with Trulli just whining constantly about the power steering, may as well take him out for a race before the updated system goes in.
