It's still months between films being in the cinema and their release on Blu Ray/streaming services. That's not insignificant, especially with spoilers etc. Then you can have a pretty sweet setup at home, but to have anything like a cinema costs thousands and often sacrificing a room (or compromising one significantly).
Cba googling all of them, but eg. Cineworld has done alright over its lifetime,

I'd imagine loads of rubbish little cinemas/independents/etc have died, but huge multiplexes with massive IMAX screens etc have replaced them. Complemented by fewer arthouse type places.
Sacrificing a room is one thing but a decent home cinema doesn't have to be all that expensive - my old setup spent about £500 decorating, £800 on the projector, £100 on the screen and about the same again on seats and sound system albeit got some EOL deals.
EDIT: Originally spent loads on the sound system but didn't end up worth it and already had a media PC setup.
