As there's no such thing as the burka race or Muslim race, how can we make the connection between race and the burka ? in order to brand people racist !

A race is a physical and social construct, one form of society is culture..

So is calling out muslims wearing the burka racist or is that too far fetched and what we all simply mean is a hierarchy impose this garment on women who choose not to wear it and those that want to wear it are simply in a Stockholm syndrome state of mind..

this just about sums up the public's views - from my Facebook news feed:

S4nrSWC.png

there are about 460 or so laughing face reactions and about 80 angry face reactions...

Singapore works wonderfully and clearly the UK is a failing state because of it's democracy and not it's lack of.

works wonderfully economically, but best not challenge the regime too much... sure, not Middle East dictator or communist levels of oppression but still dodgy

Cant understand any sane human being wanting to cover their face and hide behind a veil in this modern age. But, only a tiny % do. At least where i live. The majority of muslim women i see dont wear the burka. So, are the tiny percentage that do, are they being controlled by others. Forced to wear one. Forced to say they 'want' to wear one?

Isis force the women to cover their faces, do they not?

Boris apologising would only lead to more trouble for him. Trouble with the left, is that apologies are never enough. If they get an apology, they then smell blood and go for the jugular. They’ll say “Well he’s admitted he was wrong and racist, he should now be sacked. We can’t just let someone say sorry and then get away with it”, and the pressure would grow for him to be sacked.

They’ll just keep on and won’t be happy until he’s sacked and publicly disgraced. And they say he’s the nasty vindictive one.

The left? Is Theresa May on the left now?

She wants him to apologise. But with her, that would probably be the end of it.

I agree but on the grander scheme of things I think this is more about power than burkas.

By "dog-whistling" to the more racist side of the party, he appears to be trying to create a division.

He's hardly "dog whistling" though - he was quite specific with regards to who and what he was referring to, there was no coded language, he straight up called out the Burkha and criticised it in his usual manner.

The whole anti-burka shtick is classic dog whistling. Especially if you cover it with something like "Burkas shouldn't be banned but..."

It's bound to get the racists salivating.

If a Republican made a point of referring to President Obama as "Barack Hussein Obama" then that is a dog whistle, playing on the whole is he a muslim/his dad was a muslim thing while at face value just saying his full name.

Boris on the other hand has quite openly criticised the veil, he was straight up about it, there was no additional meaning to be implied. The fact some racists might have liked it isn't particularly relevant.

He is a full blown attention seeking POS. A politician should not dehumanise and ridicule part of the population in order to get brownie points with the right wing fools.
