I also started >Skyrim again recently after a looong break where I only played it halfway through and holy **** the game is so beautiful, years after release, with mods. 
To all those just posting "Tell me the best mods" PLEASE STOP BEING LAZY AND SPEND SOME TIME DOING SOME RESEARCH... if you Google or Youtube search then there are literally TONS of guide available for doing it that give you list of the top 40 mods etc.
A simple way to start modding is to go to the Nexus site and just sort everything by number of endorsements. That way you will see which are really worth downloading and installing https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/popularalltime/?nav=1&page_size=15&BH=0
I am using Vortex with a subscription to Nexus and it has been fine and well worth it so far and my game looks BEAUTIFUL. I only have one issue with is that the sound sometimes randomly cuts out requiring a restart of the game, but that happens infrequently and I can live with it. FPS can get a little low in very populated cities, but no biggie. I am sooo waiting for new Ampere laptops to be released this year.
I also have the "Flower girls" and other adult mods and all the relevant animation packs that allow the more adult themes in Skyrim and as as nerdy as it sounds it really does add an extra level of immersion when you can go around seducing and whoring like we would all love to in any fantasy world.
I will add more mods after this playthrough and only ensure I do specific quest lines in specific builds (this time I am playing a Nord Battlemage so focusing on main quest line and supporting the Stormcloaks and NOT doing Winterhold and Dark Brotherhood etc).

Decided to come back into the game after a year For some reason after installing Skyrim Flaura Overhaul - TREES ONLY, some of my tree barks are missing textures 
Also can anyone recommend a good ENB that doesn't harm performance? Tried one and it dropped to 30fps!

Get 3d tree and plants best mod of its type out there really makes the snowy areas better.
Ask for enb never use them U have tried a ton and always make me feel ill like I have grease in my eyes or they change the colour tone to much.

I've decided to return to Skyrim after years away because I have a little more free time. I'm playing Skyrim SE on a laptop, (ASUS TUF FX705DY AMD VEGA RX 560 4GB, 8GB, 17.3" FHD Freesync, R5-3550H Gaming Laptop), but not bein as savvy about PC's as I once was I don't know how limited I will be with regards to game quality.
I've registered with Nexus (previously used Steam Workshop), I've downloaded SKSE64 and the following Mods;SkyUI, Unofficial Patch, Static Mesh Improvement, A Quality Map, Achievements Enabler, Barenziah Markers and Run for you're lives.
Previously I think I have a follower improver mod, a horse whistle mod and maybe a forge improver.
There are endless lists available but I'm not sure if I'll be hardware constrained and I don't want to go too loopy. Any advice on essential gampley mods or limited graphics improvements.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've also returned to Skyrim after a good few years, and after screwing up my install and really HATING Vortex, I've done a reinstall and decided to use the new Mod Organiser instead... Seriously ditch Vortex
