Anyone slightly nervous about going red?

Really not an issue with the latest chips, We have a 2600 System and a 3700X system and both work flawlessly.

Only issue I have experienced is that the lastest ASUS bios on my 3700X system wont run my bdie Ram above 3400MHz, so I have downgraded to the previous and its back at 3600Mhz. Can only blame ASUS for this and it appears many others on my board have the same issue. hopefully the next bios release will fix this.

My Sons MSI tomahawk max is much better

Haven't looked elsewhere so I don't know if it's a nationwide thing but OCUK recently had massive price hikes on the upper Intel stuff, so the 10900K on here is now more expensive than the 5900X by £30.

Makes it an easy choice for AMD IMO.

Just seens its now £560 instead of £450 odd the other day. Guess it's the usual Black Friday tactic of upping prices before BF then lowering again so prices look fastastic

My experiences with the 5700XT has made me a little nervous about AMD hardware... but I'm still getting a 5900X.

I wen't back to AMD after many years of being on Intel, and have no problems at all, or regrets.

Id never go back to their GPUs though.

Yep see this all the time and it's really dispiriting. Price checker websites help to see through it.

Decide what's best for you at the time.
I used a TR 1950X system and found it very good, even in gaming. Only thing I got caught out with initially was that it required an optimised power plan that was not part of a standard Windows 10 installation, so, invoking some applications was a lot slower than on a 4 core until someone pointed out what I needed to do. Later the optimised AMD power plan was available in Windows.
I would probably have bought a 3950X if it were available when I had to upgrade last year so went with a 9900K instead. Happy with that too and I've ended up not doing workloads that would have benefitted from more cores. Next upgrade probably going to be when DDR5 available as I don't want to buy anymore DDR4 although could reuse my current 3200mhz memory, so, whatever AMD and Intel have at that time when DDR-5 arrives I will consider.

Yeah if it's a whole new platform then it only makes sense to consider both providers.

I pulled the trigger on an MSI MEG Unify x570 motherboard. I'll wait for X5900 reviews/benchmarks to buy RAM and the chip

The motherboard seemed low stock / not available most places and appears to have everything I need

No going back now!

my original main reason for going amd was because of impatience and because its what people told me to do ha ha

cos i can get a 3000 series now and upgrade to a 5000 series

but i havent got my act in gear cos of the whole rtx 3000 series thing so i could consider intel i guess ...

Any particular reason you picked that over the cheaper MSI Tomahawk 570?

I did look at the Tomahawk.

Primarily audio.
ACL1220 on the Unify reads up as being quite a bit better than the ACL1200. I don’t want to get a DAC / soundcard just yet without seeing how good the onboard is.

+1 m2 slot.
I currently have 4x standard ssd and 1x m2 ssd.
Will end up replacing my OS ssd with m2 ssd in the near future.
I already have one m2 ssd for games (2tb) which leaves one free slot in future to replace the other 2.

SLI capability (which i doubt ill use but nice if in a few years i just want to grab another 2nd hand 2080ti) Pretty sure my next gpu will be a pcie4x gpu though

Sure there was another reason but the above seemed enough to warrant the £50 increase

Sounds like a well thought out buy.

Mine was similar, but reverse. I went for the X570 Tomahawk as I will only use probably 1 M2, will never run SLI again in my life! Have a Dac already.

Similar reasoning to my Aorus Master purchase. It had everything I could want on it, 3x m.2, good onboard sound and WiFi (I don't usually use wi-fi but handy as a backup). Still probably a bit overkill but the last one listed 9 years so in the scheme of things not bad.

I have a cheapo Chinese USB Wifi dongle 'SoataSoa 11AC 1200Mbps' It's no doubt been harvesting my details for years. Best getting some proper onboard Wifi really. The Unify has Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200. Not sure about the Mag. Maybe it's the same

The onboard ACL1220 will probably be dump but i'm not up for spending £200 just yet on a good soundcard or DAC. My Xonar Essence ST has been fantastic for many years but unfortunately is PCI so will be sold. It's worked great with Mission hifi seperates, B&W, NAD and now iLoud Micro monitors & AKG 702 headphones

The MSI MEG Unify board is supposed to have good EMI shielding but read that when compents like the GPU suck up power this can cause sound problems (latency and/or sound quality problems with hissing, popping or other interference) Guess we'll see in a few weeks

Edit - It would be nice to know if using multiple m2 SSDs reduces bandwidth accross the 3 slots. e.g. use 1x m2 ssd and its nice and fast, use 2x m2 ssd and bandwidth is shared and speed is cut in half. Would not be good if that's the case

Edit 2. Going slightly off topic I know but in the motherboard manual it shows M2 slots bandwidth

The following table describes the relationship between the M.2 slots and the PCIe bandwidth of the processors.
M2_1 (CPU)
M2_2 (PCH)
M2_3 (PCH)
All are the same on 3rd gen Ryzen or above, PCIe 4.0 x4.

The block diagram in the manual shows CPU / platform controller hub (PCH) too. Should it be the primary OS M2 SSD that goes in the PCH slot or one with games and programs on?

Same situation as you Im upgrading from a 4770k and would otherwise be very nervous, but about 5 months ago built my kid a 3600x system and everything has worked perfectly well, I would be more nervous getting a high end AMD Gfx card, although my last amd cards were 2 x 290x in crossfire and they worked really well as well. I think you can have issues with whatever company you go with amd, intel or nvidia if you're unlucky.

Agreed, each company can have problems. Sometimes you're lucky and sometimes not.
