Hey,

I was just feeling happy and thought I'd pointlessly post about it on GD. Cus yano, that's what we do.

I have been working as a CS Teacher for the past 5 years. Loved it until my school decided what I can only presume is me not fitting in. Cue the constant battering of my self esteem, and making me feel useless and in the end causing me to become depressed. It cost them though, as my Union ripped them to shreds. hey ho.

Anyway, I was offered a job within industry working within my specialist degree subject. Earning substantially more then I would ever get as a teacher.

I go home, feeling happy and looking forward to the next day. Whereas before I was dreading the days to come and always waiting for the "Holidays" to get some respite. Which didn't really help anyway as I spent the "holidays" marking and planning for the following weeks.

So.. I'm a happy man.

Anyone else had anything good happen to them recently?

Nice  glad to read good news, seems to be a lot of bad news lately. I'm in a job that I don't like, IT service desk and was just offered a second line job, just waiting for a background check which hopefully a formality, and hopefully pick up my new car in a few weeks, a xc40 :D

Nice, but that's only half the story! What is specialist degree subject?

Are you becoming a full-time fluffer? :p
It's a mixture of AI and Mechatronics.
Can't go into more as may find my employer looking through my past posting history. The horror

If you are in a **** job just change, life is too short. Also the more people do it, the less **** people will put up with in their jobs employers will have to learn and treat staff better.

I went (almost) the opposite way 4 or 5 years ago. Was a software engineer for 16 years, loved it for the most part but eventually felt like I'd seen it all before, every day became more of the same old, and the crap started to irk more and more. Now I'm a teaching assistant in a special needs school. Love the job, every day is hard work but just so rewarding and a lot of fun. Pay is pants though, but it's only money.

Although for a short while I nearly made the biggest mistake, was on teacher training to be a CS teacher. Saw that for what it was after a few weeks and quit. TA will do for me, until I either retire or I stop enjoying it. Good luck pal.

Well done. You control your life mostly and so many people put up with a job they detest. Not always easy to make a wholesale change but good when you do.

I left supermarket retail for a 8-4 mon-fri factory job 2 and a half years ago and lets just say the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
