Changed career for the better

Well done OP. I was made redundant from a job I didn't like and ended up getting one I do, it paid less but I had a work life balance way more focused on life side and mentally that was huge.
I managed to get promoted so now I don't have that mental block thinking I went backwards on salary as I'm back to where I was.
The job is interesting, gives me purpose and I'm not just trying to make someone else rich so it's way more rewarding than anything I've done before.
When I was younger salary was everything, now it's not even in the top 3 factors.

It is of you have that attitude.

It isn't. The whole "just work hard/just get a better job" mantra is a complete fallacy. If it worked for everyone that way, society as we know it simply would not work, because there would be no one to do any of the less rewarding/lower paid jobs.

Do you have to work hard/try and make your own luck? Absolutely. Ultimately though, a massive amount of people who do put the work in (just as much as anyone else), WILL fail due to no fault of their own and due to the way our society is set up. An absolutely massive amount of people get jobs/success simply through existing family/friend connections etc.

Just to be clear, i'm not saying that people shouldnt work hard or even implying the OP doesn't necessarily deserve credit for getting his new job. HOwever, i was just taking issue with the statement "If you are in a **** job just change", as that makes it sound far easier than it actually is.

I have been in the food manufacturing sector since college for the past 14 years. Worked my way up to a senior management level but after 14 years the constant backstabbing and people just blatently not being able to do their job has made me decide to change career.

I just passed my Class 2 HGV yesterday. As soon as I get all my documents back I will be getting behind the wheel and booking my Class 1. It will be a drop in salary initially but I needed an out A.S.A.P. I am also planning to go back to school and HGV driving will help supplement my wages while studying as weekend work is absolutely crazy pay at the moment.

Cannot wait now :).
