******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Nice.

Unfortunately my whole pc decided to **** itself and now won't boot up properly.

Lovely.. Now the dreaded task of finding out if it's the mobo, cpu or ram that's ******.

The system won't boot to post at all. Even with gpu disconnected.

And no, there's no burned connectors on my 5090 lol so that's fine.

It went to crap last night whilst in ptu and in our discord....

Good luck. Went through that myself recently, just replaced everything lol but it was the mobo ultimately.

Yikes. I was really hoping it wasn't the motherboard on mine because obviously it's the biggest pain in the ass to change it, but of course it was

Some of the rage coming from the engineering changes has been highly amusing.

There's a short vid which, as the top comment says:

In this video we can see about 8 solo pilots in their single seater ships engaging in a dogfight battle. It's all about turn rates and getting fixed weapons on target. Pure immersion.

MY mobo and cpu are being collected later today.

I have resurrected my old 3960x amd threadripper and 3090 and been testinig sc on linux. it works, there is a easy to install app for it but two things.

  1. Cant install PTU, keeps failing at the last hurdle/bit of it
  2. Game runs around 30-40fps but it is very choppy. unplayable at the moment but im in contact with LUG.
I will try installing sc on windows 11 trial(Cant be arsed to buy a cd key for testing) and see how it performs under those conditions
I should also try Vulkan to see if it runs better on 4.4

ccing @humbug

Massive pain in the ass. Hope you get it sorted pronto.
I just got my replacement hat switch delivered from Virpil yesterday. So one thing I intend to do on my time off is to get some familiarity with the stick controls for this game and actually learn how to fly..

IM also having trouble with windows, apparently its a ******* ballache to make a windows 11 ISO without using the windows creation ap that ONLY ******* RUNS ON WINDOWS.......

So im having to dig into linux and write a load of commands to make a USB bootable Drive that works for windows 11.....

Oh that's weird. When I had to do it on Linux mint the other week I just downloaded the iso and then used.. something I forgot to write it to the usb.

It kind of sounds like you've downloaded the create installation media program rather than the raw ISO itself

Whenever i boot into it from creaing teh usb from linux, it says it cant detect any of my nvme drives... i get a pop up saying to install driver to show hardware?!?!?!

There is nvme drives installed. im using the machine already as i installed fedora linux OS in a specifc partition/nvme

EFT Message of the day.

(Tysdagr) We are currently putting together a new 4.5.0 build for a potential PTU publish later today with further shield health increases, armor penetration values and cone updates, scanning updates, experimental feature? and more

"experimental feature"

umm crafting gib gib

Na.... base building. :D

Nicou-CIG,
Hey folks, thanks again for all the feedback on Engineering and combat, it’s been incredibly helpful for the teams and is actively guiding the balance work for 4.5.

We’ve brought your top questions to the developers, and balancing is in full motion, with several updates already being prepared for upcoming PTU builds.

Ships were going down too fast from Power Plant critical states, leaving no time for Engineers to react. Fixes have been submitted to make this much less frequent.,
Repair speed felt too slow. It has already been tripled, and further adjustments are on the way. We will keep an eye on it with additional data and your feedback to avoid making repairs too strong.,
Laser and ballistic weapons felt too similar in how they affect shields and armor. Adjustments were made, and we’re continuing to monitor and tune these differences.,
Shield and armor resistance values will also be reviewed in future builds. We discovered several system issues that needed to be addressed first before improving how these stats show up on MFDs and the Engineering Console.,
Shields durability felt too low, and mitigation changes have already been submitted to address this.

Since we know the end of that shown doesn't mean feature finished then no way should we suggest they are done lol. Further to that they did say at least wanted to get crafting in to test this year at least but I can't see that hitting PTU already tbh.

It's so far away from fun and interesting at moment even if the technical side is going TBF pretty well, it's just not needing such minor changes.

It doesn't fit well at all to what had hoped for and their claims on armour don't even make sense. The larger ships like the Idris should require at least size 4 weapons to punching through it at all. Light fighters should just bounce off it completely like an AK does off a modern tank.

Hopefully it gets fixed when Maelstrom drops and they do the same as world of tanks etc which have a perfectly working system and does perfectly honeslty what CIG are claiming they want.

Well no one predicted that we would get engineering in live by end of year. Many predicted mid next year and here we are!

I don't think it's some little minor thing they are adding as experiment.

I won't be surprised if it's crafting.

Read cig response. They can easily make this be the case. They have the system in place already to say that if size 4 and less hits a idris, don't do anything.

At the moment they have set it to if size 4 hits a idris. Decrease hp by 1 percent per hit (as an example)

They have built the amplifier bro and all they are doing is turning nobs to get the right balance and frequency

They can set that to zero mate
