Steam Frame (Valve Index 2)

If only. Even Meta can't get th Quest 3 down to that price. They had to retool the Quest 2 into the 3s to get below that.

I will likely wait for valve's next effort. I feel at the price points I would want oled.

Also, I still don't see any killer apps in vr. Last one was Half Life Alyx which I already have and completed.

Everyone's use case is different. There may not be many (if any) AAA games coming out with the polish of HL Alyx or Lone Echo, but there's plenty of content keeping me interested enough to buy new VR hardware, as it improves the visuals and performance in existing content.

I'm happy to be able to play modded Skyrim in VR, or FO4 London, or newer games like Demeo Battlemarked. There's so much to play that I don't have time to play it all.

Trouble is i have many games either I have not played that i own and about 40 on my wishlist list i want to play. Not to mention loads i want to replay.

Makes it hard for me to want to pay silly money for a VR headset with only 1 year warranty.

Just not enough time unfortunately :(

If it's $1000 or more then it's just going to remain a niche device.

$800 would be the highest I could see it being a success at, but $600 or $700 would be better.

What Valve considers a success is a lot different than what we might consider a success. Valve consider the Valve Index a success. If the Steam Frame sells around 500K units over it's life time, Valve will probably be happy with that figure. They definitely aren't aiming this as a mass market headset. We might be comparing the Steam Frame with the Quest 3 because it's also a standalone headset, but I think they are aimed at different markets. The Quest 3 is first and foremost a standalone headset. Whereas the Steam Frame is PCVR headset that can do some standalone.

It would appear that actual AAA VR titles are few and far between.... but AAA flat screen games with very competent VR modes - even if not official - there are plenty of those, some of which may already be in your library.

i bought robocop for instance, with no intention of playing on a monitor. (not got around to it yet in VR mind you).

only snag really with many of these flat screen to VR conversions is you need a capable PC to run them..... good job then i guess that we are posting on a PC gaming hardware enthusiast forum with a shop with all the things we could need :D

Even with a top-end machine I can't run Robocop in UEVR at what I would consider a decent resolution and level of detail.

However there are a lot of very, very decent VR mods. Doom 3 Fully Possessed, HL2 VR, Crysis, Halo, Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast, Doom 1 & 2, Quake 1, 2 and 3, even Portal 2.

Then you get into games like Skyrim VR, and Fallout 4 VR which have amazing modlists, including total conversions, so there's lots of decent stuff to play.

PSVR2. Very cheap.

The issue is OLED isn't bright enough to get through pancakes as it stands. So you have to pick, OLED and fresnel, or pancake and LCD.

MicroOled resolves this I believe.

And PSVR2 shows how bad standard OLED can be in practice, while being good on paper.

Pentile subpixels making it look lower resolution, smearing, awful mura, and having to use fresnel lenses with a tiny sweet spot.

If you can ignore that it's a decent PC VR headset and is pretty cheap. I couldn't ignore it and sold mine. Very disappointed.

I've also sold my PSVR2 that i've bought for PC use. The resolution was ok for Half Life and Beat Sabre, but for driving and flying it was near unusable imo. WHere it was usable though, it was very enjoyable. I feel PSVR2 was a better experience in the two games above than my current Pimax Super Ultrawide.

How are you getting on with the pimax super? Is it heavy and noticable?
