******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Whenever i boot into it from creaing teh usb from linux, it says it cant detect any of my nvme drives... i get a pop up saying to install driver to show hardware?!?!?!

There is nvme drives installed. im using the machine already as i installed fedora linux OS in a specifc partition/nvme

Out of my depth at this point! Id be on the ol chatbot at this point (probably was to start with when I did it).

That time of year for the Luminalia freebies again.

I've only got half an eye on what's going on in the PTU currently but there's a lot of changes their tinkering with. Although it does feel they're just throwing darts at the wall a bit. Shields Civilian grade A vs Miliary has the military with 35% more health but the civilian grade A lower emissions, 1 less pip etc. All still massively subject to change. I do like the idea that there's real differences between the different components. And they're doing similar with repeaters vs cannons.

IM also having trouble with windows, apparently its a ******* ballache to make a windows 11 ISO without using the windows creation ap that ONLY ******* RUNS ON WINDOWS.......

So im having to dig into linux and write a load of commands to make a USB bootable Drive that works for windows 11.....

## In case it wasn't obvious from certain dev hints on Spectrum, the "experimental feature" that will be in a coming PTU build is VR support.

In fact, it's already sorta in:
1. Create a user.cfg file with the line sys.OpenXR = 42 in PTU folder.
2. Turn on VR headset and get in (Only tested with virtual desktop)
3. Run game, in menu open command console
4. enter r_StereoMode 1
5. bind a hotkey for head tracking recenter in controls

According to people who have used it:
"flight is fully possible, FPS controls are a bit wonky, F-interaction is pretty good so far. markers are not eye-synced but HUD is. maps work too."

Not all Linux Distro's have that, at least not by default, Fedora doesn't.

Windows keeps getting worse, you Nix Veterans are going to see more and more Windows refugees coming your way, be nice to the Baby Penguins, they are just scared and confused, i know what you guys are like......

Great, thats all we need.....

Joking aside, Look for "ISO image writer" in the repos.

Ok, so I spent a couple of hours messing around in VR.

It runs surprisingly well tbh. Ship stuff and general running around is fine.
If you have any reasonable experience with VR - especially with stuff like UEVR, you'll be used to the slight drop in resolution and texture quality here and there. The immersion and scale etc usually makes up for it, as it does here.

Issues:
- No radar in cockpit
- Markers (navigation/hangars etc) are kind of fixed about 2 feet away and can be annoying and obstructive
- FPS weapon placement is bad and needs work
- Inventory is in a narrow window and definitely needs work, although it is technically usable
- FSR (I think it's FSR3) sucks. We need FSR4, although CIG TSR is pretty decent. I imagine DLSS 4 will work well for NV guys.

Ship combat is cool, aside from the missing radar.
Ship HUD and MFD's are very usable, as is the menu/mobiglass.

Using dual sticks is properly immersive if you know your mappings well.

All in all, a very promising start.
I didn't take note of FPS numbers, but I was generally fine with how it felt. It'll chug a bit at the usual places.

7700X/9070XT/32GB Quest 3 on Virtual Desktop - AV1/Ultra
Ingame default all very high with CIG TSR at quality,

awesome. I struggle playing cockpit games without vr these days.

Sure it cool but spend too much out the ship and CBA swapping a headset out. Rather not be at a disadvantage in FPS mode using vr

hopefully there will be different options configurable by the time it's released.

full VR
cockpit vr where you take headset on and off and flip to screen for FPS
and full headset on with cockpit vr and flat screen FPS within VR (bonus points if optional 3D support within the flat screen vr)
