LG G5

Managed to get a deal for 65" G5 and the LG 45GX950a monitor for £3150 which I think is a pretty solid deal.

Next up is to try and find a new stereo amp for the RX8 MA speakers to connect via eARC then.

Go for a AVR.

Best choice with AV sources
I've only got the MA RX8 so is the AVR really worth it over a decent stereo amp? Also I'd say it's about 60% music, 30% general TV and 10% movies watching really.

£1500 budget really is what looking at. Was going to go demo some in next week or so.

Multiple HDMI in/out
Multiple zone
Bass management
Room correction
AV sync delay
Surround sound decoding & downmixing (otherwise you just get stereo PCM limited to 16 bit 44khz)
I've got stereo & AV systems...once you factor in TV/Video sources, go with a AVR. Even if you have stereo (for now) for movies 100% get the remaining speakers at least go 4.1 or 5.1

Also I'd 100% get a subwoofer once you watch movies, as low bass sent to those RX8 is not a good idea, and I wouldn't run them full range for movies (fine with CD music though)

My speakers go much lower than yours, bigger drivers, and more drivers, and I still have a subwoofer. Yours are 52hz F3 point

Add remaining speakers later.

Fair fair. Makes sense. Just didn't want to overcomplicate it if could get something for music generally would be better if went stereo than spending monies on features won't use.

There is no way to set up rears in space have in the 3m x 4m living room and dining open space. Only maybe ceiling hanging or similar tbh which lot of work. And the only place a sub could truly fit in room is under the TV facing your seated position. Issues with that at all? Can happily get a sub at least added if feel worth it.

Denon X3800H was thought if putting extra monies for sub as needed. I guess matching up sub to speakers make sense. But could stretch say to the X4800H if waited to get sub in a few months. Is the extra £600 for X4800H worth it?

What about small surrounds or on walls? You will lose a lot of immersion staying with stereo for movies/TV shows. A good stereo can sound great but adding surround sound to good stereo is even better. I can use "stereo mode" on my av processor no problem so it'll downmix atmos/DTS X to that, it does sound good but I lose the surround effect immersion. I have a 9.3.4 av pre power system btw

Just be aware setting sub to off, mains to large means those RX8 will receive <20hz so the amp will work harder, increased distortion and possibility of damaging speakers.

CD music nothing like what is on movie soundtracks

higher end AVR will have more channels, better room correction

Stereo amps will sound better- however room correction can help fix issues <300hz that stereo amps lack - unless you get something like a Wiim Amp which has room correction built in (and that does have subwoofer integration and bass mangement)

Instead of routing all sources to the TV then to the amp, with a AVR you go source-->AVR-->TV, also you get OSD from the AVR.

Use REW, room simulator to get an idea where best place for sub is, enter in room dimensions

Suggest you borrow Denon 3800/4800 and Wiim Amp Pro

Also with a open plan room means you get a lot of bass reduction so you won't get that movie experience.

Ta muchly. The living space has wall one side that is only 6" from edge of sofa and other side has a staircase/banister in way and would be around 8ft from the other side of the sofa seated position to the actual wall. So really am limited to what can do with space here.

Yeah sub really can only go under the TV unless there something wireless but I expect there other issues with that.

Kinda hijacked this thread. I'll make one and add photos etc of space etc tomorrow.

Cheers for idea Wiim Amp. SevenOaks is my local place for audio so will see about home demo etc from them.

Panasonic Z95B doesn’t have DTS either.

FFS, why can’t anyone just make a flawless TV?

Solution to that ;-)

Source----->Trinnov Altitude 32-----> Power amplifiers---->Speakers 20.8.6

;-) TV with DTS not needed.

Although still lose DTS for built in TV apps like Netflix etc. So yeah pretty rubbish...you need a dedicated Media box or something - Nvidia Shield or something like that?

Does anyone have any links to colour / recommended settings guides? Watching the rugby yesterday, I felt like I could get more out of the picture

I picked up the LG G5 65" during the BF sales, and it's not been a good experience.

The first unit had extremely poor tint on viewing angles, I'm talking tint shift when moving half a metre from dead centre, I sent it back for an exchange.

The second unit has slightly better tint shift off axis, but head on, looks like this on a 100% white screen.

I'll go again with an exchange, but the QC over at LG is insane.

If can see that on my phone it must be worse viewing it.

Not sure if quick/long pixel refresh corrects that

Hmm I’d say the opposite - a phone will pick up these things way better than human eyes. This is why there are loads of amazing photos of the northern lights in the UK showing vivid greens and pinks but you couldn’t ever see it like that with your own eyes.

That’s not to say it isn’t bad. What really matters is whether you can see it in the context of something you’re actually watching. If it’s only noticeable when displaying a block colour… especially grey which always seems to bring out the worst in any display… there’s scope to chalk it up as a non issue.

Obviously, if you’re not happy with it then don’t accept it. Just trying to avoid someone the pain of only accepting ‘perfection beyond what you can naturally perceive’, if that is what is going on.

100% agreed

I don't even bother testing greyscale stuff, generally speaking when I buy a TV, if I can't see an issue when watching it and playing games, then it's perfectly fine.

I've got a 65" C2 I brought home from work. It has a few clusters and scattered dead pixels - maybe 10-20 or so around the edges. I gave it a few days and I have never once noticed a dead pixel from the sofa. Keeping it.

Recently picked up a 77" G5. Must say, the picture is great.

But I am surprised at the lack of on-board storage. Plex has to keep restarting, mid show, due to lack of storage space. Went to chek, and less than 6GB storage in a near £4k TV. Think they could have done better there.

I guess problem is it updates apps so they use extra (rather than overwrite the existing app) and you can download extra apps taking up more space

Only thing I'd want to install on my LG OLED would be a Kodi branch I guess this isn't available?
