Half-Life 3 Rumour Mill

The more I look back on half life the more I really start to be "meh" about HL2. This game was carried on having integrated Havok tech for the physics as middleware, it was a fun innovation for the time, but looking back now that we have that level of physics in a lot of games, the rest of HL2 was kinda bland and boring.

The original HL in the lab was great, it was a maze of human tech, experiments, research and innovation and just all sorts of cool stuff. It felt like a real research bunker. HL2 setting is really awful, it's like this nameless faceless uninspired "city 17" with combine tech everywhere. There's nothing cool in the city. They embraced more of a horror theme for it eventually especially in HL Alyx which I think suffered because of the same problems, while the tech for the valve index and the experience was just brilliant, the setting was just really rubbish. A VR game set in black mesa type lab with teleportation experiments, portal experiments, lasers and whatnot would be amazing.

We're now far away enough from HL2s release that any gimmicks in game design have faded, and we just get to compare the game elements between the 2 games, and if I could only ever replay 1 of them again it would absolutely be HL1, no contest. I'm probably more excited for some kind of portal/half life cross over, or just portal sequel. I think going from lab disaster to global invasion was a disaster move. It was like letting the infected spread outside of racoon city in the RE universe, especially in the movies, and having earth be a wasteland. The drama in the disaster, not the aftermath, same goes for things like the terminator franchise, it was better people being chased through malls and modern cities and stuff, rather than the end of the world and terminators have killed or enslaved everyone. Yawn.

@PrincessFrosty That is a really good reflection and I could relate to pretty much all of it. The only memorable bit for me in Hl2 was the Raveholme level, because it was different to the whole city stuff which was largely forgettable. I will try play through the epsiodes now but so far I agree I'd rather replay HL instead, had a totally different vibe to it.

I think I would have given up on gaming had I have ever done that.
According to my save, the chapter is called follow Freeman

And finished it, not a scooby do what's going on, can't remember much of the story, ep1 and 2 next.
Do yourself a favour and watch a recap or something brother

I agree with HL1 being better than HL2. I've not played Alyx yet.
Have you played Abiotic Factor? Yes, it's a completely different kind of game, but it has the same underground research facility thing going on. Very much a homage to HL1.
I'm slowly making my way through this with a couple of friends and it seems to be quite solid fun.

I have seen reviews of it and it does pique my interest a little, I like the idea they're going for. I'll probably grab it on a sale or something when its deep discounted. That sort of thing is better with friends and mine have no real interest in it unfortunately, but they might give it a spin if it's cheap.

Just remember, if it's not tomorrow, there is always a tomorrow after tomorrow. So either way the game is coming tomorrow.
Literally impeccable logic :D

I've lost count of how many times I've seen this thread has updates, and yet it has no actual update !

Is there a thread update coming tomorrow ?

I spent an hour with chatgpt last night going over the maths and probability numbers for a "test" scenario of predicting the next lotto game numbers, if i win I will use the same methdo to predict HL3 launch date, although it's tomorrow anyway so maybe a wasted effort.

OCUK lottery syndicate, more chance of a jackpot than HL3 too :D
