LG G5

I guess problem is it updates apps so they use extra (rather than overwrite the existing app) and you can download extra apps taking up more space

Only thing I'd want to install on my LG OLED would be a Kodi branch I guess this isn't available?
No idea about Kodi. I've been using Plex for years, so that's really all I'm interested in. Apart from Netflix / Paramount / Prime / Disney+. But maybe that is too many apps.

None the less, the 6GB isn;t the "free space". It looks like the total. I think they could have been more generous there.

Recently picked up a 77" G5. Must say, the picture is great.

But I am surprised at the lack of on-board storage. Plex has to keep restarting, mid show, due to lack of storage space. Went to chek, and less than 6GB storage in a near £4k TV. Think they could have done better there.
1) Are you sure Plex is restarting for storage reasons? I've only seen apps restart to free up memory (RAM) not storage.

2) Why does Plex need several GB of storage? Should just be streaming surely.

Could be RAM. But still the issue is that why on earth would a flagship TV not have enough memory (RAM or Storage, whatever is deficient here) to play a single episode of a show in Plex, in 1080p no less. Not even 4K. Without having to restart the app midway through every episode.

To be fair, for some reason it didn;t seem to be too much of an issue with some of the movies I've watched the last few days. But still disappointing that it was happening when I was trying to simply watch a show.

Just purchased the 65” G5 , arrives tomorrow .

Upgrading from a 9 year old Samsung ks9000! Should be a big difference, love my 42 c2 I have on pc :)

Any settings recommendations to change straight away?

In all honesty the settings out of the box are pretty good these days. I've never touched them on my G4.

Rings G4 setting

LG G6 details are leaking

* Brightness booster Ultra: 3300nits peak brightness
* Revised Alpha 11 chip with 5x more AI performance
* 165hz refresh rate
* four HDMI 2.1 ports

Very disappointing, its basically the same TV as the G5 but just brighter. No LG TVs in 2026 will support Dolby Vision 2 and no LG TVs come with HDMI 2.2 ports

It probably is the same chip under the hood anyway, and just some panel optimisation. More AI performance is a non-metric.

Does a 4k/165Hz TV have a reason to use HDMI 2.2? It really isn't something to just add in without a purpose.

Not much I'd want from a new TV anyway, probably just better motion handling. I'm using the LG smooth motion thing or whatever it's called, on a low setting..some camera pans are pretty bad without it , a sideways pan at a certain speed shows it off, watching one of the BBC blue planet or something like that.

HDMI 2.2 would be used for 240/360hz/480hz refresh rates, where as TVs have been stuck at 165hz for several years now and graphics cards can already push past 165hz with frame generation so TVs can't keep up with graphics cards now

HDMI 2.2 also brings additional features such as:

* superior automatic audio syncing with soundbars and speakers and AVR.

* Support for source based tone mapping and dynamic per frame HDR - this is required for Dolby Vision 2 HDR

So basically it boils done to that hdmi 2.2 adds three features: higher bandwidth for up to 480hz 4k screens, automatic audio syncing with speakers connected to TV and lastly hdmi 2.2 is required to use Dolby Vision 2 HDR

Ok, reads a bit like an AI answer.

Why would the LG G6 need HDMI 2.2 please?
