RC cars

FTX Tracer? They do a truggy version or a monster truck version and it's cheap.

If you could stretch your budget by £30 you could look at the Arrma Grom range, or the 1/10th scale FTX options like the FTX Vantage or Bugsta
Thanks for the info, this little number came up in my googling too!

Do they come with the controller etc (receiver? What's the correct RC term, sorry ;) )

Just want a nice entry into the hobby

cant say i have heard any thing bad about them for the price, i think a few guys on the model sport uk forum rated them pretty good for the price, just dont expect miracles though especially with small scale stuff :)

I've got one of those and would recommend it, it's taken a fair bit of abuse without any issues. I upgraded to oil shocks for a slight handling improvement. I would stretch to the brushless version if it's not much more as it's not worth upgrading it later.

Routing round my parents house I found my old Traxxas Erevo VXL modded with a 1/10th scale motor.

Just need a new radio set and charger.

Any recommendations for a charger? I used to have an Elysium LX60B but looks like modern ones are much beefier.
SkyRC Q200 any good?

Radio wise I used to have a 3 channel Spectrum when 2.4ghz was still fairly new. Probably don't need to spend that sort of money again, receiver needs to be small for the 1/16th car.

Eyeing up a HPI Baja 5B flux kit. Used to have a gas powered SS version when they first came out. So charger will need to support those kinds of batteries as well.

your charger looks to be a lot better than my one :)

this is mine https://www.skyrc.com/D100_v2_Charger and i use it for any thing up to 4s

So a good brand?

And what about a FlySky Noble NB4 Plus for radio, looks to be similar to my old Spectrum but a fair bit cheaper.
yeh sky rc are decent :)

i hear good things about flysky ones as well im gonna be considering one as the speccy prices are daft for the receivers now :)

any one got one of these? https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/hpi-savage-xs-flux-gt2-xs-rtr-1346949

im getting tempted by it, i believe its a 12 scale with 10 scale wheels?

it took a beating in tomleys review vid and came out intact and i have a soft spot for the savage and mini's we still have a nitro one kicking about, i am just not sure about hpi parts support at the moment.
yes, i have 2 of them, one RTR and one SS. they are good fun to drive and very small. They use 2.2inch 12mm hex wheels same as a HPI MT2 from back then standard 1/10th stadium truck size. the slipper clutch can be tricky for some people to set. The drive shafts are very soft and the pins wear out extremely fast. Very tough other than the drive line. the diffs can strip too. they can be a pain to work on. they arent the easiest to get apart compared to a standard chassis layout.

savvy xs out of stock so went the traxxas route this time, thanks for the info jumper i am still tempted with one :)

the traxxas mini srt came today and it is mental, weighs quite a bit, i was quite surprised at the weight for the size of it and then i took it out side for its test run and omg fast is a understatement and the handling was like a larger model, i am really impressed with it :)

it did get pretty hot on 2s on the motor but i have a smaller pinion and fans for the motor and esc on the way which should help a lot and fitted a alloy skid plate to it.

edit: had a gap in my fleet after retiring my old thunder tiger xxt and xxb https://www.rcscrapyard.net/uk/thunder-tiger-sparrowhawk-xxt.htm the leccies from them live on in my konghead and bandit, but i was itching for a small fast stadium or monster truck to fill the gap, oh yeh im super happy with the mini xrt, incredible peice of kit, just needs tamed a wee bit to both reduce the speed and heat a little, the smaller pinion gear and fans should help :)

changed the pinion on the mini xrt to a smaller one and for some reason the mesh was really tight, it appears if you use say a 25 tooth one you have to put it in the motor mount for a 26 one or its really tight.

so should run a lot cooler now and fitted the fans to the motor and the esc, back ordered some adaptor leads so that i can charge the trx id batt with my normal chargers instead of the daft wee usb thingy that came with it, also got a metal spur on order incase i break the plastic one :)

gonna get a alloy center diff casing at some point, even on 21t pinion itwill still hit near 40 mph with 2s, removed the plastic cap from the end of the motor, it seemed to be clipped on tight and was impairing the air flow and the leads from the motor :)

Got my stuff for my mini E-Revo. Even on 3s it's insane fast I got a couple to run in parallel. Need to snip those god awful Traxxas ID connectors off and replace with xt60.
Have to do the same with my old 2s batteries as well they are still above 3v so should be fine. Run those in series for 4s.
Not easy getting hold of leaded solder these days, I'll have to borrow some from work.

Impressed with the Flysky radio gear, so many options.

I’m going to be selling most of my collection as tbh I’m just not using them. Not sure where best but will probably just list on eBay.

I might keep a couple of the smaller ones but not sure. It’s been fun building fixing and collecting them the last few years.

woohoo tried the xrt with smaller pinion and slacker mesh and it ran a lot cooler, instead of been too hot to touch for more than a second it was only mildly warm when i brought it in the house, reckon i shall try some other pinions in the future and tweak it a bit maybe a 23 tooth :)

Noticed one of my old packs is bulging so looked at disposal and needing to completely discharge it. I'll just get rid of both my old packs probably dead anyway reading around 3V for a 2S pack.

Got a couple of 30Ohm 50W resistors in series, 60Ohm should be nice and slow.

What do the rest of you do with old potentially damaged batteries.

the last one that went dud i made a lead up with motor bullets on one end and a deans connector on the other and just let it drain its self in the garden with a stock tamiya 540 motor.

its still sitting there i need to check its fully discharged then ill snip the connector wires and wrap the cables together to make sure its fully dead then i should be able to dispose of it :)

Can they safely go in general waste once fully dead?
