What film did you watch last night?

The Thing
Little Shop Of Horrors
Oceans Eleven
The Fly
The Parent Trap
Scarface
Some Like it Hot
The Maltese Falcon
True Grit
Dawn of the Dead (Ok, not better, but as good)
Scent of a Woman
Ben Hur
Airplane! (which is a remake, of a remake)
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
I would add A Star Is Born to that. Its a remake of a remake.

The Thing
For a moment there I was thinking you were suggesting The Thing (2011) was a better film than The Thing (1982), and I was like WHVAAAAAT? NOOOOO!, then a realised just in time you're talking about The Thing (1982) was a better film than The Thing From Another World (1951), and I was like, aaaah, yes.

Plus, i do like my 50s/60s sci-fi. (just not The Fly ;))

The problem is when people expect colour, modern FX etc. and can't take these old movies for what they are and when they were made.

I'm not old enough to have seen any of them at the cinema, but I do remember when I was primary school age seeing all the old horror and sci-fi films (going back to RKO Pictures and James Whale classics from the thirties) that they seemed to regularly show on the TV. Somehow I managed to convince my parents that I was allowed to stay up if there was a monster movie double bill on BBC2.

Watching them again as an adult now it's obviously easy to be a bit hardened to their charm, but I used to love them. Still remember being blown away the first time I saw King Kong (1933) and Them! (1954) on the TV.

Watched a few, the last few days of the holiday
Sisu the road to revenge - not as good as the first, they really took this to the next level, a bit disappointed overall
Nuremberg - Pretty good by all accounts, the only really negatives from a personal perspective was the distraction of Rami's facial expressions and not escaping the translators appearance from the White Lotus.
The Smashing Machine - Theres little escaping its the Rock playing the lead role but he did pretty good and the time passed quickly enough, having zero knowledge of the protagonist and being based on a true story im now going have to compare to the real events :D Tragic story aside its not to different in style to the Iron Claw in style/feels.

Chaplin (1992)

Biographical film starring Robert Downey Jr in title role, who's performance is probably the film's main reason for watching it. The rest of the film is very by numbers and feels, in it's execution, even older than the time it was made. Having said that there's enough to keep you watching even though, at times, it feels like it's going to fast and not in depth enough. As a consequence, although I've seen some of his work as a child, it's made me want to revisit his films at some point in the future.

6/10

London Calling - 6.5 / 10

It has quite a low IMDb rating (5.6) but watching the trailer I thought I might enjoy it and I did. It's nothing amazing, but it's a nice enough, light and entertaining movie.

Running Man(2025) - 7/10

Quite enjoyed it, not one I'll probably watch again in a hurry though. Was also good spotting all the Glasgow filming locations and what looked like the steps at Wembley and the Olympic Way.
