What film did you watch last night?

The Pink Panther (1963)

I think I've seen some of the later films, but not the original. In all honesty it's more like a training run for Sellers to develop the character of Clouseau than anything else. As such it's not particularly funny or entertaining and comes off as very amateursish and awkward. Hopefully they improve as I go through them.

Apollo 13 (1995) - 9.999r/10

Rewatched this last night because it'd been a minute since I saw it.

A love letter to the whole Apollo era, with some incredible casting throughout. Tom Hanks obviously fantastic as mission commander Jim Lovell, but really there's no-one you'd say was in any way miscast. Tight direction from Ron Howard, with fun little flourishes here and there (like that push-in on Ed Harris' Gene Kranz as the call about venting comes down...pure art). The model and VFX work hold up still, the reproduction both of the spacecraft interiors and Mission Control are bang on, the soundtrack is glorious... it's all just so incredibly well done.

Historical inaccuracies are few and far between. There's the occasional line that mangles the engineering, and some stuff changed for the sake of drama. Also lots of stuff left out but in fairness you kinda feel like they had to, the real life mission was a bit relentless in how stuff went wrong. The movie glosses over a couple of extra engine burns to get back on/stay on course, and skips over the battery explosion (!) in the LM descent stage that happened on the coast back home.

percy jackson and the lightning thief, surprised it had a star stuffed cast back then. Movie was meh, but I was intrigued to rewatch it after completing Percy jackson season 2 tv series which was good.

Unlawful Entry (1992)

Never seen it. I like Kurt Russell but this was a bit of a grind. Pretty predictable.

It had "TC" from Magnum PI (Roger E. Mosley) and I hadn't realised he had passed away a few years ago, I loved Magnum PI, so if anything I was focusing more on that then this movie.

Dream scenario

I don’t know how I’ve never heard of it before, really enjoyed it and nic cage played his role amazingly. I’d say it’s a bit quirky but a solid 7/10

The Stringer (documentary) 9/10

A brief overview as I suspect most won’t have seen it: It centres around a famous Vietnam war photo that was credited to a photographer who went on to win major awards and become celebrated. After 50 years, witnesses come forward claiming he didn’t take the picture, that it was actually taken by a Vietnamese national whose name was mostly unknown. The film sets out to uncover the truth.

Went into this one cautiously and wasn’t expecting much.. I thought it would’ve been overly biased, especially when key figures are no longer alive to defend themselves but it was handled really well. It’s beautifully made, tragic all the same and very well researched, an overall very thoughtful doc.

Would recommend.

Saw this on Prime, but the description on there is completely wrong. Seems to be for a different film. Shows the Dream Scenario logo, but the title when you play says 'Men' and the description is for that film, not Dream Scenario.

That's so odd...

"Is this Thing On?"

My teenager asked me what I thought about it, and I could only come up with "Real".

Great movie, no matter what Rotten Tomatoes says about Bradley Cooper.

It's not a thriller or an action movie, it doesn't have special effects, and I'm not a huge fan of Laura Dern, but it is real. And, ultimately, heartwarming and hopeful.

Primate - Decent horror about a beloved family pet chimpanzee who gets bitten by some wildlife and gets rabies and then loses it. Starts killing anyone in his vicinity. Gory in places and is a lean, mean 85 minutes or so in length. 7.5/10

I gave this film a watch tonight after your recommendation. It was decent and thought-provoking, though quite creepy in some parts.

Greenland 2 - Migration

Heard it was bad, but gave it a watch anyway. The Asteriods making an appearance and the storm cloud was a nice touch but everything else what a train wreck! The War? The lush Crater in just a few years?

Song Sung Blue (2025)

My wife was watching the One Show last night, probably because Robbie Williams was on. Kate Hudson was also on promoting her film, so I said we can watch it if you want and so we did.

Overall it's a well made film and the true story and Hugh Jackman singing aspect would be a big draw to my wife. For me, I enjoyed it and even though I'm no Neil Diamond fan, I knew and liked most of the songs used in the film.

The acting, singing and music are all great and even James Belushi shows he's more than a one trick pony. It's never going to win any awards for originality, but since it's based on real people, **** happens to all of us.

Better than I was expecting and not at all schmaltzy.

7/10
