You can even drop down to i5 760 and fit in a 480 on the same budget with the savings on CPU, motherboard and RAM. Which beats the living hell out of i7 950/nVidia 460 for gaming.

The processor and motherboard will not match. To go with such a configuration you would either need to roll back to a LG1156 compatible motherboard or get an i7 from the 900 series.

As long as you are happy with your components, there is nothing wrong with this setup. All parts will work together, no problem there. I am sure other people will come up with alternatives for your build, but if this is what your heart is set on, your heart has chosen well.

That is not an issue with your monitor at all, as Rroff pointed out the main culprits would be CPU or GPU. You should monitor them both when gaming and see what it is that bottlenecks when your fps drops like that.
