    Small high quality work monitors?

Hello all, I am looking for a very specific setup. EDIT: Full post below, but does anyone know a small but good quality 15" ish monitor that can be mounted vertically? Best option I can find is the ASUS MB169B which is 1080p and IPS. But it's also USB powered and I'm worried that will either...

    Laptop Wifi Antena

Hey guys, I am doing my usual of messing around with things I shouldn't.... My old laptop's screen broke. So I took it off... When I rebooted the laptop the wifi was disabled. After a quick poke around I realised that the wifi antena was built into the screen assembly. There is a cable...

    SSD lifespan and OS transfer

https://www.howtogeek.com/228042/how-to-switch-from-32-bit-windows-10-to-64-bit-windows-10/ I did not know that, thank you. I just found this article on doing so... Would my Windows 10 licence key be valid for 64bit?

    SSD lifespan and OS transfer

Hey guys, following on from my earlier thread, I'm seriosuly considering buying an SSD The situation is that my laptop is low on RAM and is using the HDD to cache data as a result, causing it to freeze up a lot. I'm considering buying a Samsung 860 to remedy this (as I cannot add more RAM). I...

    Incredibly slow since updates

Unfortunately it needs to be Word Word - I need to be able to do things like footnote and have compatability with my colleagues. LibreOffice and OpenOffice just don't cut the mustard, and actually, I am struggling with getting Linux Lite to work on another (very old) laptop currently as an...

    Incredibly slow since updates

Nothing that stands out as using an awful lot... Firefox is somehow hogging 500mb (1 tab), but after that it is anti-malware service executable on 43mb (negligeable) and service host: superfetch on 41mb... then a loooooong list of various windows system applications using tiny amounts but... I...

    Incredibly slow since updates

It's a mechanical HDD for sure. I'm not sure on the size but 500GB sounds about right. The laptop I had before this was a Lenovo with 4GB RAM and it was brilliant - but that was running Windows 7 and clearly since then there have been significant increases in what a system demands.

    Incredibly slow since updates

When I looked in system info just, it said that it was using 6GB of virtual RAM - is this the pagefile you mention? It is a Lenovo V110 80TL. 2.5ghz i5 6200u (duo core?), 4GB RAM.

    Incredibly slow since updates

I am not entirely sure, but I believe 32 bit. System information lists both... But I would guess at 32. It was running perfectly fine with a fresh install. I opened the three programmes I listed above and RAM usage shot to 75%. I am certain this is the problem... but I was hoping for a solution...

    Incredibly slow since updates

I'm sure new RAM and a new HDD would both help dramatically but... the build quality is very poor. Plasticy and cheap - I've had it a year and I don't have much faith in it lasting much longer than another. Long story short, I'm reluctant to spend any more money because I feel like I am throwing...

    Incredibly slow since updates

Hey guys, I bought a really ****** laptop about a year ago. It's been a disapointment, and was slow from the get go. Last week I restored it to factors settings and that helped a lot, but since then it has been doing a lot of Windows 10 updates every night. Today when I loaded it up it was super...

Selling old mac - forgot to sign out of itunes

Hi everyone, I am selling my old Mac Mini as I have no use for it. I perhaps foolishly wiped the harddrive before signing out of all of the apps and such. Lots of places recommend signing out of all apps and itunes before wiping the computer, and I wondered why this is? Is it just so that you...

    DIY Case for Laptop Mod

I did wonder about an old, retro hi-fi amplifier. They look great, and are a ton on ebay going cheap as repair jobs! But if I do that, I will have leftover amplifer internals, and that will turn into another project...

    Help with motherboard cables

Hey guys, quick question, I am modding a laptop into a custom case. The HDD is connected to the motherboard via this card reader, but at the wrong angle for my needs. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Asus-K50IJ-K50I-Card-Reader-SATA-Connector-Board-60-NVKCR1000-D01-/331637808400 If you look in the top...

    DIY Case for Laptop Mod

Hey guys, I am a broke grad student (otherwise just known as a grad student) and I want a backup PC to use, probably as a HTPC but perhaps low level gaming. I don't have the money to buy a new PC, but I have wrangled myself a laptop that was pretty good a few years ago for free, as the screen is...
